Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
BTW, i have to mention that the support i got direct from Michael is excellent. I've been emailing him back and forth and he's going to send me a new power supply board for $30, which is only the postage. Great services and support.- taiphan

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
Quote: HI rhodes54, It's the voltage coming out of the power supply into the dac board. 24V is when i wired the PSU up with the yellow wires and 13v is went i wired the PSU up with the blue wire (wires from the transformer). so in short, when i measured the DC power output...- taiphan

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
Quote: HI Curiousmuffin, i am using a tube stage with mine, the tube DO not improve the SQ, it give you a different sound. with the Tube stage, the sound is really lazy but warm, while the chamelon on it own is very dynamic and more detailed, however for certain songs, i prefer...- taiphan

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
Quote: HI rhodes54 & fellow modders my Chameleon died again, so i followed your advice and measured the voltage and i got some weird reading. THe 5v supply is normal under load and no load. But the supply to the dac board which should be 7.5V or 8V, i got 2v under load, what the...- taiphan

Quote: If i only use the USB input, would i need to replace the XO on the other board? it's bloody expensive :) replacing the xo on the up sampling board look easy enough, however it's a bit difficult to see how you wired the other board, looked like you have two set of...- taiphan

Quote: Hi rhodes54, I am thinking of following your footsteps with this dac. I know you may have mentioned this before, but is the SQ improvement significant when removing the 74HC04? does it matters if i only use USB input? also any chance of a detailed guide on...- taiphan

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
HI All, Just wondering if any tried SLA battery to power the dac board? The Red Wine Audio Black Ligthening uses SLA battery and had good review, so maybe we can make our own SLA battery supply.- taiphan

Quote: Hi Wood, It's pretty straight forward, there's already labels on the Chameleon indicating which is D+/ D- etc. I just wired direct from the ultravox to these. Then I broke the four corresponding legs off the input board so that it's no longer making a connection with the...- taiphan

Yep I direct wired the d+/d- directly to the board. However you will need to wire the ground and + wire too, as this acts as a switch for the dac to select usb input, otherwise it will default to coax. Quote:- taiphan

Hi all, i was just wondering, since there's a few of us here are using the ultravox, anyone hard wire direct to the Chameleon's input board? i hard wired mine to the solder point of the female usb plug, but just thinking it would be much better to wire it directly to the board somewhere...- taiphan

Hi all? I was thinking the same with regard to the number of chips. What if u double stack the valab to 16 chips? what would be the likely outcome? also, is there any theory on SQ vs operating temperature of the dac chip?- taiphan
