Thanks for the recommendations, @zolkis! I am tempted to get the Stax earpads, but the price tag is way too steep for me to justify them at the moment. For the other pads you linked, do they all require the sewing to be broken to access the inner foam? Also, after trimming or replacing the...- stjj89

@zolkis, are there any stock pads you would recommend for the TH900 that come anywhere close to the modded pads you enjoy? I have modded two TH900 pads now and have grown tired of the unpleasant appearance of the crumpled protein leather and the lack of durability (the protein leather flakes off...- stjj89

Sure, I can try. It has previously taken me an awfully long time to cut the foam to the exact dimensions. I'm considering using a heated blade or a fancy heated string foam cutter this time to see if that makes this easier.- stjj89

Win a SUSVARA
I have owned and listened to several HiFiMAN headphones over the past few years (HE400, HE400i, HE560, HE-6, Edition X, HE1000), and they have all sounded terrific to me. Naturally, I am excited about HiFiMAN's latest flagship offering, and would very much like to own one.- stjj89

I recently changed my felt rings out for the original foam dampers, turned to the bassiest position recommended by Whitgir. I think that it's tightened up the sound a little. I'm getting slightly deeper bass, and more punch/dynamics overall. This is a good thing to my ears. My protein pads have...- stjj89

You can actually create angled carbon pads if the shallow pads bother you. That's what I did (~24mm back height tapered down to the recommended 7-8mm on the front, and it worked well for me, without any noticeable effect on the sound. Note that I actually stacked a "booster" piece of foam...- stjj89

Here's a video that shows you how to remove the pads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjOr2kcQJDk For the carbon pads, the leather will be loose. Grab the loose leather, instead of the foam stuffing when you are twisting the pads in and out of the slots.- stjj89

The pad mod makes the biggest difference. Did he include the carbon foam pads as well? If he did, put those on and give'em a shot :)- stjj89
