DIY tube amp for electrostats: transformer coupling vs DC coupling ?

SE DHT to electrostats - that must sound sweet. I agree that the trannies must have been a challenge to design.   Given the nature of the cans naturally points to a balanced topology which is in fact push-pull - with all that it implies in terms of even order harmonics cancellation. That alone...

Proper way to implement a separate bias supply in a DIY electrostatic amp?

Hello and thank you for all the replies.   The circuit is verbatim from the srd-5 box:     No fuse, and even if they wanted to connect the 0v to neutral, they came with an unpolarized plug. You may have seen the circuit from a latter srd-7: This one uses a cockcroft ladder that...

DIY tube amp for electrostats: transformer coupling vs DC coupling ?

Which one you prefer and why?   Direct connection freaks me a little bit, because  if something goes wrong you're at risk of getting full B+ right next to your ears. And you need a separate high-voltage begative supply so that the plates can rest at around 0V during normal operation.   A...

Proper way to implement a separate bias supply in a DIY electrostatic amp?

Hello!   I am building a vaccum tube amp, testing it with stax electrets as of now so no need for bias supply fot the moment. The headphones are connected directly to the plates, which are sitting close to 0V by using a negative supply for the final stage.   However i am a bit puzzled on how...

DIY stax adapter box busted my amp - help me understand....

Thank you for the great replies.   Now that i have swallowed the pill, i realized that using the 4 ohms tap was not the best bet. I wanted the highest gain, but as pointed out by nikongod, that may not have been necessary. I will try the 16 ohm tap, probably with a small series R.   My error...

DIY stax adapter box busted my amp - help me understand....

Yesterday i tought i knew how transformers worked. I wired an hammond Push-Pull tranny backwards to build a stax adapter. The  impedance ratio was 1:1900 when using the 4ohms tap. I figured that at 50K the stax headphones would then be reflected as about 26 ohms.  I feel so dumb now, sitting...

    STAX Lambda Pro Cables

Hello Steve, I would like to know if you found a source for a replacement cable for your Lambdas. I have the same issue with mine, but what's not helping is that they are normal bias, hence i need a six-pin one. These seem unobtainium.   Thanks for any info, Joris
