If you want 1080p graphics, avoid D2700, and check to see if the CPU has graphics software available. Currently, my PC is using generic graphics software from Windows.

I am using external DAC (PC outputs digital info to external DAC) and I think this sounds better than my premious noisy Dell PC.  Never did A/B comparison though.

I have this fanless PC and added SSD and operating system:   Fanless Silent Mini-ITX PC Kit: Intel DUAL-CORE Atom D2700 CPU,2GB Kingston DDR3   It works extremely well as music server using Windows 8/10 with no noise from PC at all.

I think any change can produce different sound, but in this case it might be very little. I am using a totally fanless Intel Atom based PC and it did get noticeable sound improvements. 

I am using Synology NAS and it's connected to my router, so that all my PCs in my house can have access to the music files.

What's the advantage of directly connecting to NAS as opposed to going thru PC USB?
