If you want a good headset thats actually good, check out the Skullcandy SLYR for $70, otherwise the next best thing headset-wise would be the Sennie PC350/360. The AT M50, unless you get it for the sale price of $80~ there are better options IMO, have you looked at other options available...

Do have to give them a thumbs up for the SLYR as the Skullcandy/Astro lovechild. It's a start in the right direction for Skullcandy to be taken more serious.

The 990's are undoubtedly bright, but I think some people may simply be too sensitive to treble... My own 990 600ohm is a far cry from shrill running on both Phoebus or Matrix M-Stage HPA2. I feel that people are either exaggerating or are simply sensitive to that range.

That looks like the Ducky YotD MX Reds with associated Purple LEDs. They had 4 models for the Year of the Dragon, the MX Red model featured purple LEDs.

Just a suggestion, but why no mention of the Creative Aurvana Lives for him if he took interest in looking at the M50's the CAL! should offer quite a bit at a much more reasonable cost.

There are some things needing fixed for sure, but I've been having fun. I just wish I wouldn't have to level through a rank more than once.

Have had amazing luck with the Logi G400 and SS Sensei Raw, although the Sensei gets shelf-space since it doesn't play well with cloth pads which I prefer.
