Funny, I never even tried the white filter until I read this.. The white filter paired with the Sony PHA-2 really sounds perfect.. I was finding the blue filter with the PHA-2 to be a bit boomy and too warm, but, totally solved with the white filter.. 

  8-600 Ohm support as per their spec sheet..

    How would that explain the average at best sound with the PHA-2 over the 5s then?  5s DAC that good?  I'm having a hard time understanding what makes the PHA-2 worth $600 based on my few hours of listening and constantly comparing with and without the PHA-2..

So I went out and picked up a Sony PHA-2 to drive my SE846's with my iPhone 5s, but, I didn't really see any benefit sound wise - in some cases, I found it to sound actually worse..   Do the SE846's need to have an external AMP/DAC?  They are pretty damn efficient headphones out of the box...
