24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Does anyone know where I can get a test track that is in 192KHz / 16 bit, 44.1KHz / 24 bit and 192kHz / 24 bit? I realize I can do this myself with dBpoweramp, but my understanding is that most software out there just truncates the extra bits off. The process requires dithering and needs...- skibum

Valab NOS DAC - subjective listening and modifications
Quote: A lot of us (including me) have just pulled out the 47K resistors and put them in the bin. My "output stage" consists of a 360R Texas Components TX2575 resistor and a 2.2uF Dueland Audio VSF Cap. That's it.- skibum

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
Quote: Hi Chris, You need to measure the output with a 0dB 1 KHz sine wave. Download this free app and you can produce any frequency & level you want: http://www.tropicalcoder.com/AudioTestFileGen.htm The blue trim pot (variable resistor) should be adjusted to get an approximate...- skibum

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications

Chameleon DAC listening and modifications
What do people think the improved SQ of the Chameleon over the VALAB DAC is most due to? Is it going from 8 TDA1543 chips to 16? Better power supply? ? Has anyone tried running the Chameleon with just 8 DAC Chips? I am working on a bit of a project and I am...- skibum

Valab NOS DAC - subjective listening and modifications
Quote: I have the HiFace and in my system it really cleaned up the sound. Huge improvement for the money spent. It comes with either a RCA output or a BNC output. Either way it is a USB to SPDIF interface so it outputs SPDIF - you just have a choice of two different connectors.- skibum

Valab NOS DAC - subjective listening and modifications
Quote: The Duelands are far to large to fit inside the standard Valab box. You have to buy another box to put them in. The caps you buy will replace the stock caps. Throw the stock caps in the bin!- skibum
