External DAC to replace Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD?
Short answer: sure I have a budget. Less is probably best. See a little farther down for a more specific answer, in my response to the other person who commented :yum: Agreed, it's nice, I have no complaints. But like I mentioned, aside from downsizing the PC, I like the idea of not worrying...- Shub-Niggurath

External DAC to replace Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD?
Hello friends, So, I've had this internal sound card for several years, with Beyerdynamic DT990 600 ohms and Sennheiser HD 650 headphones. I got a Magni amp in 2013 to run the headphones, and have been running this setup for all those years. Nothing is wrong with it, it sounds great and meets...- Shub-Niggurath

Is USB-C going to be a problem for USB desktop amps?
http://www.macrumors.com/2015/03/09/usb-c-digital-av-multiport/ is what the previous poster was referring to. And http://www.theverge.com/2015/3/16/8226193/new-apple-macbook-usb-type-c-security-risk-badusb is worth a read even though it's a bit off topic.- Shub-Niggurath

Interested in the AKG K712 Pro -- but have a few questions regarding my existing setup
Guess it can't hurt to look at my BIOS and see if I've disabled the on-board altogether, since I'm not using it. So anyway, getting a Vali seems like a good idea since I'm keeping the Magni no matter what, it'd be easy to switch between the two, so perhaps I'll just do that. I would indeed...- Shub-Niggurath

NEW Vali Schiit AMP!!!
Hey folks, Do you think the AKG K712 Pro would be a good match for the Vali? The K712's specs seem similar to the Q701 and I've heard good things about that and the Vali, but I figured I'd check in here. The DAC is a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD, if it matters.- Shub-Niggurath

Thanks for the reply! I don't know if I disabled the on-board sound, but why should I? I have the front panel of the case connected to the Sound Blaster and I'm only connecting cords to the Sound Blaster in the back, and all the defaults in the sound control panel are set to the Sound Blaster...- Shub-Niggurath

The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread
Hey folks, I have a few questions about the AKG K712 and my present setup. I currently have 600-ohm DT990s, a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD and a Schiit Magni (not Magni 2). Thinking of moving the DT990s to my workplace. I'd need new cans for home, and the K712 seems like a good idea...- Shub-Niggurath

New Guy
Ripping CDs using EAC and compressing them to FLAC is fine. The level of FLAC compression does not affect quality since FLAC is lossless. Using a low level of compression simply means your encodes will go faster and use more hard drive space. There is no benefit to sound quality. Did you follow...- Shub-Niggurath

Hey guys, I actually posted this other thread the other day but the situation may have changed a bit. You can still refer to the other thread for info on what I do with my headphones, and add PC gaming to the mix, including FPS where positional cues are important. So, I have a few...- Shub-Niggurath

Looking for portable-ish full-size headphones for commuting and office use, preferably <$100 -- further details inside
Even the over-ear ones look a little small when I look at pictures of people using them, I'm worried my ears wouldn't fit entirely inside the earcups, which would probably get uncomfortable, and I don't know where I'd be able to try out a pair.- Shub-Niggurath

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I see that now. So are they worth the premium over cans such as the ones I had in mind? Are they comfy (I know that's subjective but humor me) ?- Shub-Niggurath

Hey, Thanks for the suggestion. I know of the Momentums but dismissed them on the spot because they're on-ear (rather than around-the-ear). Aren't they? I absolutely need the padding to rest directly on my head, around my ears. I guess I should mention that my ears are kind of large and I'm...- Shub-Niggurath

Hi folks, I'm sick of my earbuds not staying in place and having to be readjusted all the time to get optimal sound when I'm on the go. I have ATH-IM70, and while I like them, I recently had to RMA them because the left became very very quiet and I'm wondering if it's because I constantly...- Shub-Niggurath

Seems like my IM70 just took a dump The left side is significantly weaker than the right side. I put the left side in my right ear (and vice versa) to make sure it wasn't just me, and also connected them to two different devices and switched ears again, no luck...- Shub-Niggurath
