I2C does not have a set length: bus capacitance is the limiter. IIRC, this is around 400pF. In the past, since I only needed to run one segment of cable, I used Texas Instruments P82B96 on each end. Page 55 of that application note I linked shows a different arrangement that may be...- ShaneP

From the sheet linked off the newark page you should expect half light output with half current input (10ma probably around 1.85v forward). Lead spacing appears to be .100 in.- ShaneP

You could try to find a good receiver and figure out how it charges. This one looks like it takes 5vdc from a switching adapter through a usb cable so you might be able to carry around something like a minty boost to charge it.- ShaneP

Finished building a y1 and y2 a couple weeks back. I never realized I was listening to total crap coming out of my sound blaster card. Bass is much stronger now and I can't hear any static when I turn the volume all the way up with no music playing. Only hitch was one of the screws supplied...- ShaneP

You could also try using a heat pipe setup. Might be worth looking into, although I've never done it myself, I've heard copper pipe filled with acetone works fairly well.- ShaneP
