Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

If you don't use headphone compensation, you're just adding together the FR of your headphones and the FR of your speakers. The result will sound like neither, most likely won't sound good at all. If you use WebPlotDigitizer to plot an FR graph of the Susvara, you can place it with the other...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

Hopefully Google's open source version of Atmos takes off (Project Caviar), but I doubt it. In movies, I'm not particularly impressed with most uses of surround in general, but modern games put them to shame and make perfect use of surround. I would really enjoy the inclusion of height...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

My best tip is to listen to your best raw FL/FR/BL/BR (etc).wav recordings with virtualization disabled. Any clicks, pops, squeaks, shaking furniture, or just general distortion you hear in the recordings will likely show up to some degree in the resulting hrir. I found that I had the best...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

The difference is that the measurement will react to and allow you to visualize any change you make as far as EQ, downmixing, upmixing, adjusting virtual speaker position, etc. Basically anything that alters the digital audio signal.

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

I just found out that if you run the headphone measurement with HeSuVi activated and your HRIR selected, and you have the default input device set as your surround virtualizer (Cable Output for me), plotting the headphone graph will show the combined frequency response of the HRIR's speaker +...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

Are you sure you have hearing loss in your left ear or is that just a guess? That's usually in the higher frequencies as far as I know, unless it's a severe case. If not I would try adding a small delay (like 0.1 ms) to the left channel in EqAPO and see if that makes a difference to you, that...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

I ended up removing the casing for my ms-tfb mics and putting them inside a slit earbud I had lying around like Brandon did earlier in the thread, my results are already noticeably better from doing that so I'm assuming that is the main issue. Some of the 5 hrirs I quickly recorded with the...

My channel balance is fairly good and I have tried all of the commands, the FL speaker is still positioned incorrectly.

Is it possible to somehow adjust the angle of a single virtual speaker in either impulcifer or hesuvi? I'm getting a lot of great sounding HRIRs but my left ear is angled differently than my right ear and 95% of the 30+ HRIRs I've recorded are panned to the left. Specifically (with single...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

If it's so low that the mics can't pick it up I assume it's not touched. I had to EQ some sub bass regions of the hrir created with the LG CX speakers by 45 dB for them to be reasonably audible, and those frequencies appear to be placed similarly to the stock headphones. That's a pretty extreme...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

I was able to get a near-perfect recreation of my LG CX TV speakers as a test drive, the fact that this is a free project is mind-blowing. I have a Kali LP-6 on the way that will hopefully be high enough quality when paired with an HD800 to not feel any loss of detail. Is it possible to EQ in...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

I have two MS-TFB-1 mics and an M-Track Duo, but the right channel mic will only work with my Rode VXLR+ adapters (on either adapter or either input 1 or 2 of the interface) if the jack is pulled out from the adapter by about 1/8th of an inch, but works fine plugged fully into the mic-out of my...

What do you mean, just that they aren't matched very well?

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

If anyone is looking at the MS-TFB-1 or SP-TFB-1 from soundprofessionals due to pricing, don't bother because it is only a single mic despite the amazon title and description referring to mics, plural. I'm 99% sure I'm going to need to order a second mic, but is it possible to do these...

    Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone

The DT770 has a sensitivity of 96 dB/mW while the DT1990 has a rating of 102 dB/mW, so the impedance may be the same but the 770 needs more power for the same volume.
