I picked up a pair of JVC HA-SZ1000s and they are pretty much the best basshead cans south of the SZ2000s.  You really can't beat them for overall bass slam for the price.  Highly recommend if you are looking for real bass out of your headphones.

The HE-400s scale really well with more power, I heard a pretty noticable improvement when I went up to a more powerful amp, especially in the bass slam.

I would say if you are running IEMs then the Lyr 2 is the way to go (lower noise floor with sensitive drivers since it has a low gain option).  I picked up one of those super sale Lyr (version 1) and I am elated at the quality for the price.  While I am no expert I can honestly say this amp made...

Yea definitely sounds like the case unfortunately.  I just checked my 990s and the velour is pretty much identical in thickness and I do see a plastic sleeve in the box for the cable.

I am going to receive my HE-400s today and am interested in swapping out the pleather pads with my extra pair of Alpha Dog pads.  Also I am going to test them up against my trusty DT990 Pro 250 ohms.  Its like Christmas all over again!

Yea it should be fine to run it since they are pretty easy to drive, I have the e10k currently and I ordered a pair of HE-400 that will arrive next week.  I am planning on doing an A/B test between my e10k and my little dot mark III to see how each holds up.  I will report back!

I just ordered a pair of these guys yesterday, can't wait for them to come in and try them out!  Has anyone tried swapping out the pads for Alpha Dog pads?  I am interested to see how they hold up with the thicker pads.
