Comment by 'Scarydog' on listing 'Ampsandsound Nautilus'

GLWS! I'm listening to my Nautilus right now. I have the Tung Sol 6550 NOS and they are far and away my favourite power tubes in this amp - sounds so good!

Quick question 😀. In the Nautilus, should I match the impedance of my headphones to the marked impedance on the outputs (at least as a starting point)? Ie. 300 ohm cans to the high z. LCD 5s to the 11ohm?

Are there any alternatives to HQPlayer?

Thanks! That is very helpful - I will give it a try.

Are there any alternatives to HQPlayer?

Thanks! I have decided to give HQPLayer another try. It was working with Holo Audio Red as the NAA endpoint. I tried to use the demo of version 5 but that didn't work so I rolled back to my version 4 but that had now broken by installing the demo of 5. So I started from scratch with version 4...

Are there any alternatives to HQPlayer?

Good question. I suppose my thinking was: I can add OS to a NOS DAC but can't remove it from a DAC that does OS internally. So I can have both. I like how it sounds both ways.

Are there any alternatives to HQPlayer?

My dac is a holo spring 3 and doesn’t offer over sampling. I really like the sound of NOS but also like the upsampled sound from HQPlayer. I just find HQPlayer itself clumsy and awkward. I also don’t really like having a computer in my audio chain as it nice to get away from them sometimes 😀...

Are there any alternatives to HQPlayer?

Thanks for that I will have a look at the Audiobyte stuff that sounds like what I am after!

Are there any alternatives to HQPlayer?

I have played around with HQPlayer a few times and finally bit the bullet and bought a copy 6 months ago. I have repurposed an older Mac Mini now running linux and HQplayer Desktop. It works fine, I can upsample PCM ok, not really enough grunt to upsample to DSD but that’s fine. But I have a...

Interesting. I will try that! Also wondering about how the rca and xlr inputs work on the back of the nautilus. Would it be ok to have my Dac plugged into one and the turntable into the other? Would having both playing at the same time (accidentally) damage the amp?

I have tried the JJ KT88s sorry - so I couldn’t say. I was looking for something that might sit in place of NOS Tung Sol 6550. I haven’t tested them back to back yet but will at some stage. For now I have changed the whole tube complement in one go. So I went from NOS 6050, Brimar 6060 and...
