USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best
Hi OspreyAndy... I've had issues using the S9 Pro and ddHiFi TC44B (the "matcha cheese") in balanced modes with the iPhone. The iPhone won't adequately power the IEMs/headphones I'm using to full volume over balanced connections (maybe can get to 65% or 75%) and will start to clip. Running...- Scaremonger

FiiO Q1MKII- Native DSD Support, XMOS USB DAC chip, DAC AK4452, 20 hours
I need recommendations for a third party Lightning to Micro USB cable for the Q1MKII. The FiiO supplied cable sadly has a loose fit that causes it to lose connection, even when it's still fully plugged in. I bought this 6" cable from Meenova (which is an excellent fit), but when I fired up...- Scaremonger

I just think the DSD support works for you only if you have a ton of DSD files that you don't want to take the time to convert, I guess.- Scaremonger

http://www.head-fi.org/t/651769/the-fiio-x3-thread/12870#post_10883179 Yes, thanks for the reply. I was aware of the PS3 hack being the only way to rip SACDs. I'm thinking of the iFi Micro iDSD instead, more money than the Loki for sure, but a bigger bang for my buck. The nicest...- Scaremonger

Off topic from the X3, but has anyone tried a Schiit Loki for DSD playback? I was having a hard time finding a cheap SACD player, and I realized I could rip my SACDs and play them back with Audirvana ---> Loki, which has a bypass for a PCM DAC. Very inexpensive solution. (I was replying to...- Scaremonger

The Fiio X3 Thread.
Quick DSD question: is the X3 transcoding DSD files to 24bit/88.2kHz PCM, or is it playing them natively? The X3's screen displays the correct info for the .dff files I'm playing. When using it as a DAC, DSD is transcoded to 24bit/176.4kHz PCM. Has anyone tried loading any SACD.iso...- Scaremonger

The Fiio X3 Thread.
Just recently got my X3 through the Adorama sale... A few questions/observations: 1) Upgraded to the latest firmware after a few days. Started hearing the dreaded "popping" noise, mostly just before playback, almost always from startup. It's not created any problems with playback, but...- Scaremonger

For iPad use, this article suggests using a Tekkeon MP1550 USB charger (it shows one in conjunction with a CEntrance DACport): http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article/ipad-high-rez-digital-transport-rest-us The Devilsound or Halide DAC HD wouldn't be anywhere near as convenient as a...- Scaremonger

Cool, thanks for that link. The more information the better... Yeah, I recognized the TG reference! Have you heard any of the reissues? I'm thinking the DAC HD breaks down like this: $200 worth of cabling/termination and a $350 DAC. If you look at it that way, a DACport/DACport LX...- Scaremonger

Good to know, as I'm aware that Steve regards the Bitfrost highly. But it's also worthwhile to remember that people like Steve hear and write about the latest and greatest all the time. So his feelings can be skewed in that direction. Also, great name hamburgerladdy. I think if the...- Scaremonger

Quote: I think a more interesting comparison would be to the CEntrance DACport or DACport LX, or to the HRT line of products. How does the Devilsound V2 compare to those, grokit? I've been looking for reviews of the DAC HD and the only one that seems to be out there so far is a puff...- Scaremonger
