ESS 9281/9280Pro
Twisted Pear Audio worked with ESS to make their Buffalo DACs. They have nothing at the moment with those chips. When the announcement came they said that ESS announce new chips way before their actual availability and support. My guess is that the very first implementations will appear at the...- salavat

DX200/220 Amp8, MAX and other EX modifications
I agree, I do not need a cat, since I have one, which looks almost the same as yours)). Oayide is good solder wire, I've would have used WBT and Cardas as well. Also to note (if anyone performs this upgrade) - clean off the flux completely with some FIux OFF cleaner and then with isopropyl.- salavat

DX200/220 Amp8, MAX and other EX modifications
I basically followed up DimDim project on diyaudio on replacing ES9018 chip on Buffalo III DAC, 9018 and 9028 are pin-to-pin compatible, however more powerful AVCC and voltage regulators are required. As for firmware - I yet have to try B3 Pro firmware from Twisted Pear (to see whether it works...- salavat

DX200/220 Amp8, MAX and other EX modifications
Seems that you use microscope, which can make SMD soldering way easier )) I recently swapped ES9018 to ES9028. The biggest difficulty was to place it properly for all 64 pads)), for soldering I used JBC tips (one 'spoon' type and another with 0.4 mm chisel tip).- salavat

DX200=Affordable High End Audio. Dual ES9028Pro dacs. AMP1, AMP3, AMP5, AMP7 & AMP8 ***Firmware support now up for AMP9***
I had problem with battery recently with symptoms you described, but on 1.0.5 FW + Lurker patch. After installing 1.06 FW DX200 battery was it used to be. Software updates might cause this behaviour. Try to reset everything and installing 1.06, if it is the same reason as it was in my case, this...- salavat

There is probably some information on DX220 on some Chinese forums (as usual they are ahead of the world on new devices). Anyone reads Chinese hi-fi forums?- salavat

That has surprised me. Good multilayer PCB is difficult to destroy (I am sure Ibasso uses only quality components), I use desoldering gun (Den-On DN-SC7000Z) it is very rare when pads come off, only if PCB is overused)).- salavat

Thanks for input, interesting. I just saw a few (THT) caps to be soldered over existing MLCC and maybe some tantal ones, I did not remember the size but I guess it is 0805 (0603 worst if I missed something), anything else I missed? Or you mean that MLCC should be preheated (as Ersa for example...- salavat

DX200=Affordable High End Audio. Dual ES9028Pro dacs. AMP1, AMP3, AMP5, AMP7 & AMP8 ***Firmware support now up for AMP9***
I was catching up with this thread for missed 25 pages.. Couple notes for 'amp upgraders': 1) I saw flux residue on some photos, which is not good (remove it after soldering with Flux OFF spray or whatever you have access to, even the flux does say 'no clean' or else) 2) If you planning amp...- salavat

Can you clarify one thing please? You mentioned that you use headphone output of AMP8 as line out.. My understanding that line input of amplifier expect certain impedance (to match typical 47K) and Vrms (which vary but still around 2.5V typical)... Any problems using AMP8 to feed amplifier?- salavat
