  1. Audio Technica CK100

    4.50 star(s)
I recently bought these as an upgrade to my Head Direct RE0's.  The RE0's are outstanding value for money, and there is not many headphones that can beat it ... until I got my hands on the CK100's.   The CK100 packaging box is nice - very simple, and does the job more than adequately.  What I noticed on it, which I've not seen in many other headphone boxes is that it lists the product code for replacement silicone and foam tips - meaning you dont have to go finding the manual for it if you keep the box.  Really handy :)   Upon opening the box, I...
  2. Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1

    4.00 star(s)
I've been playing around with the D1 for a few days now, and I must admit, its pretty good.   The large number of input possibilities (Optical, Coax, Analog in) as well as the built in USB DAC at this price makes it a very good value-for-money (if not a bargain) buy. The tube pre-amp is also a nice touch.   Considering that Maverick audio do sell these as a 'Desktop mini series', I only use mine in association with a computer and some bookshelf speakers (with the purchase of the D1 companion, the Tubemagic A1). I can see people using this as...
  3. Klipsch Image X5 Noise-Isolating Earphones

    4.00 star(s)
These were one of my first high-end earphone purchases, and it did not disappoint.   Before buying, there are a few things to consider regarding the Klipsch Image range.  I was looking at the X5 and the X10, as both had good reviews.  I ended up buying the X5 for the following reason: 1: it was cheaper 2: it was slightly heavier than the X10 3: the X10 is rumoured to be a bit biased on the high end, whereas the X5 is supposed to be neutral throughout.   The X5 comes in a handy carry box, with lots of accessoires, including an ear wax scoop...
  4. Sennheiser PXC 450 Active Noise-Canceling Headphones

    4.50 star(s)
I bought this because it had better reviews than the-then top-of-the-range Bose Quietcomfort 3's.  This was because the QC3 were 'on ear' design which I did not like, and the PXC450 had the much desirable 'around ear'.   The PXC450 is large, and a little heavy (with battery inserted),  However, it is much better than the PXC350 or PXC250 in terms of function - and so it should be as its more expensive than those two.   Out of the box, you get a carry case with an airline plug adapter and one for headphone socket on hi-fi systems.  There are...
  5. Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones

    4.50 star(s)
I purchased these because my Sennheiser PXC450 were getting too big to carry around once I purchased a larger netbook.  So this review is more a comparison of it and the QC15.   The striking difference is the size - the PXC450 are just massive.  The QC15 on the other hand have cups that just fit around the ears, and are lighter.  The sound quality on both are excellent, but my personal opinion is the QC15 produce a much more natural sound.  I have also tried a friends Goldring NS1000 (which is a lot cheaper) and while its noise cancelling is...
