The Stax Thread III
[Edit: New home found; no longer available] I have a 35+ year old pair of Stax SRX Mk.3 headphones and SRD-7 adapter that I bought new, and a SRA-3S amplifier that I bought used that needs repair, all of which I'd like to give away to a good home for just the cost of shipping. The headphones...- Rushton

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Philips Miniwatt tubes! Can they even be found any more? So many of the vintage tubes are just no longer available, at least not at any near-to-earth prices.- Rushton

This aligns with what Justin has told me: in the BHSE circuit, differences in tubes are audible but they are subtle, not dramatic. But, this is what most tube equipment designers tend to say. As we know, the real story lies in what we hear and how much we value the change observed. Thanks for...- Rushton

I've had my BHSE for 9 months and can't foresee any time that I would change away from it. The sound quality is superb with my SR-009S 'phones, the build quality is exceptionally good, and it is meeting all of my expectations. I recently upgraded power cords, power conditioning and interconnects...- Rushton

Very interesting new development, Justin. Can you talk more about the changes in wire and dielectrics? I would be hesitant to request the natural color for fear it would become "dingy" looking after a few years as the cotton ages. Would be black for me!- Rushton

My wife and I have been listening partners for over 45 years now. Great to have a fellow music lover in the listening room. When we started to downsize and sold our primary system, we decided that we'd switch to headphones instead of floor standing speakers. Of course, this meant getting two...- Rushton

Welcome, Cory. I'm also largely a long-time lurker here and recently made the commitment to the BHSE and two pairs of 009S "ear speakers" (one for me, one for my wife and listening partner). We couldn't be happier with this combination given our listening priorities and the kinds of music we...- Rushton

I agree with Whitigir. I'm a believer that cables can make a difference in any high end system and I fully expect the same to be true with my BHSE and 009S. But, because everything else in my system here is new and just breaking in, I don't yet have a good baseline for comparing interconnect...- Rushton

Hi Phil, I have not made this comparison. However, I have done a lot of reading on this topic. The consistent comments I see are that the 009S is very similar to the 009 but is a bit less bright, a bit more extended in the bottom end and perhaps (just perhaps) a bit more resolving. Depending on...- Rushton

Your review, coupled with some other recommendations, encouraged me to go ahead with my purchase of the MPD-8. Thank you for the review! Conversations with Andreas have been very enlightening, also. I don't have a dealer in my area and he was kind enough to work directly with me on making my...- Rushton

I agree. This is the best digital playback I've ever experienced. The 009S and MPD-8 are indeed a very satisfying combination, complemented very nicely by the wonderful BHSE. My listening partner spouse was all smiles this afternoon as we listened together (two pairs of 009S headphones). Enjoy!- Rushton

wh01sjongalt, welcome to the family. I also just purchased a BHSE from Justin and am still burning it in. A suggestion: stay with the stock tubes for a while. Let them burn it with the amplifier and live with the combination for 500+ hours. THEN decide what you are not hearing or are hearing but...- Rushton
