    SF Bay Area mini-meet

I should be going too. I'll take my HD650's (which I just found, pairs very well with the Walfredo's Svetlena 2). And I should take a Polk UltraFocus 8000 as well.

2013 SF Bay Area (Changfest?) Meet Impressions Thread

Well, maybe next time/meet, if they are available :)  In a different note, I saw one very small Fostex amp/dac (HP-P1) which seemed very portable. I did not try it. Seems like it uses a  32-bit word AKM4480 DAC, but not sure what output stage configuration is. Does anyone has listening...

2013 SF Bay Area (Changfest?) Meet Impressions Thread

The Project Sunrise is a  really interesting kit. I also found out there is a "Project Horizon", which is supposed to be geared towards higher impedance headphones ( 300 ohms and above). Probably build one of them.

2013 SF Bay Area (Changfest?) Meet Impressions Thread

I had lots of fun. Thanks everyone who organized and participated with their gear. For me, the highlights were:   - STAX Lambda Nova + Stax SRM-3 + Sony C222es SACD - Wow, natural image, phenomenal bass extension, and it's from mid-90's! I want one. - Donald's (DNA)  amps + denon 2000's...

    Classical

If you liked Grieg, you'll most likely enjoy Sibelius (Valse Triste,Violin Concerto). For the concerto, I recommend Hillary Hahn on the violin. If you liked Debussy, you will like Ravel, who was also from the impressionist "school" (Daphnis and Chloe, Bolero, Pavane pour une Enfante Defunte)...

Classical - Basic Library recommendations (big list)

Great list!   Yes, ECM's Music for 18 Musicians is essential, it's an excellent introduction to this piece and the composer himself supervised/played in this recording, but the one from RCA (Ensemble Modern) is also excellent.   ECM's Music for 18 Musicians   RCA's Music for 18...

    Why is the HD650 'boring'?

Quote: I was not talking about classical, but jazz. Both can be "aggressive," but that is a matter if musical preferences, really. But the HD650 are pretty good with LedZep, Deep Purple,  Nirvana etc. I haven't listened to Metallica or Sepultura through the hd650's, though.

    Why is the HD650 'boring'?

From my experience so far, the HD650 can reproduce the pluck in the strings of a well recorded acoustic bass faithfully - that "wood"  sound. It maintains, for the most part , a sense of space around instruments. In terms of "attack", it is very, very good - brass ensembles, jazz with lots of...
