since it sounds like you're going to be very close to your sound source, i'd say go with the coiled cord because there will be less cord to worry about. a long cord can be unwieldy.- rh41

another newbie ready to lose some money
the hd280 aren't terribly popular on here...but in addition to the srh440s, check out some reviews of the denon ah-d1001 and ath-m50 (neither require an amp and isolate fairly well)- rh41
