I will also suggest doing it in a multi-stage format. Use a sharp, flat edge (perhaps, a good chisel) to scrape the paint off, and then use acetone to try and clean off any remaining paint. Then use the buffing wheel to polish the steel, and make it look even nicer.- R34P3R

To remove the paint on the tin, I would suggest using a buffing wheel with a white bar of buffing compound (why white? its meant to remove rust and paint on steel and other ferrous [iron-based] materials, but will leave the steel very shiny, and refined looking. However, it will leave a grain on it.- R34P3R
