Not to grave dig, but the PX 100 II are awesome. I just got them a few weeks ago and once you get past the comfort issue (I wear glasses) they're fantastic. Being a somewhat poor college student I wish I knew about these awhile ago because they're a great pair of travel headphones.

I had the same problem with the headband hurting a ton (huge head), so I ended up just cutting out the four innermost pads and that seemed to do the trick. While the pads are a huge negative the sound on the akgq701's is worth keeping. Best of luck!!
