Colorado Head-Fi Meet July 19, 2025
That would be awesome! I am extremely curious about those in particular! I will definitely do a write up on them. I don’t think the design makes sense without a bit of story about the process of creating it. I set out to make a simple headless black box running HQPlayer with 1 SBC and a...- Promee

Colorado Head-Fi Meet July 19, 2025
Oh, the A&O Omega is also on my interested list! Curious about the Arya Unveiled too... I'm also quite curious about the Cyan 2, as I'm deep in the HQPlayer rabbit hole, and I know it's a recommended DAC for that use. Trying to decide if it is worth attempting to sell or trade my Denafrips...- Promee

Colorado Head-Fi Meet July 19, 2025
Planning to be there! I can drive 1 person with a very small amount of gear (I drive a Miata, so it will be cozy). I’m coming from Lakewood, but I could dip into Denver to grab someone if needed, just let me know! I can bring anything in my sig that people might want to hear, but was planning...- Promee

Dayzee - Flagship DAC from Geshelli Labs
Sorry for the delayed response! If you search on Head-Fi, you'll see I actually did a detailed comparison of them, also including the Topping E70 Velvet and Denafrips Ares 12th. I stand by them as written - in terms of pure sound quality out of the box, I think the Qutest wins. I think this is...- Promee

Woo Audio WA22 Amp Owner Unite
I have to say, I have ended up using my Tung Sol 7236 much more than the 5998… Similar power and dynamics, maybe a bit less euphonic, but a bit more technical - still definitely not thin or harsh and much easier on the budget, at least for now, but we all keep talking them up in here 😂- Promee

Woo Audio WA22 Amp Owner Unite
Late to the party on this one, but I saw a reference that said 50 for low and 150 for high. Wish I could remember the source…- Promee

Woo Audio TUBE mini Balanced Headphone Amplifier/DAC
Totally agree, that base is a game changer… I have also been playing with upsampling with it to DSD128 with HQ Player, and I have to say that also had a significant benefit, might be worth trying if you don’t already use it… The base was a bigger improvement tho, it’s really fantastic!- Promee

Mod House Audio Tungsten - Planar Magnetic Headphones - Impressions and Discussion
I had been curious about the same thing… I can’t recall 100%, but I think I remember hearing similar things. Here’s the calculation from Headphoneresource.com It looks like you could get a pretty good experience if your typical listening level is in the low 80’s or lower. If you push beyond...- Promee

HQPlayer Impressions and Settings Rolling Thread
Thanks for the feedback! I have started an account over at Audiophilestyle to gauge interest there. I actually have an Ally X, so I can give this a shot. I think playing music from the desktop on it is a bit wonky, and for some inexplicable reason Roon doesn’t have a desktop Arc app, so I would...- Promee

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread
I will say that, for me, the Qutest does a better job out of the box than the Ares + Iris 12th handling DSD. I know it converts it internally to PCM (at least I think I know that from what I’ve read), but if you take each of these out of the box and feed a DSD signal in, I think the output is...- Promee

Violectric V222 and V202
Very cool. I hope it goes well with the tube rolling! Do you get a good bit of additional gain with this setup? Any negative effects / distortion if you turn up the Gemini too high for example?- Promee

HQPlayer Impressions and Settings Rolling Thread
Hey again, HQPlayer people! I have been thinking about this for a long time (see my posts in this thread from March 2024) - we need a portable dongle-like, Mojo-like, Poly-like, or DAP-like plug and play HQPlayer implementation of HQPlayer that can sit between a phone or tablet and a dongle /...- Promee

Pi in the Sky - HQPlayer portable RPi transport - let’s build it
It’s 2025, people, and the world needs a plug and play, headless, “it just works,” Raspberry Pi running HQPlayer Embedded locally. I know, HQPlayer is supposed to need a small nuclear reactor to crank DSD 2048 with unspeakably complex filters and noise shapers, and I am 100% for that at home...- Promee
