I also want to try some polypropylene caps, but I'm not sure how much noise those thin unshielded wires will pick, being so close to the power supply.- prog

I have bad experience with the CM108 driver. While using it weird things used to happen with my DAC. After 5-10 minutes playback the music fully disappears and I get only crackling noise. Only restarting the playback makes it work again. No problems with the build-in xp driver so far.- prog

Well I'm not familiar with the I2S bus, but I suppose that CM108's output is too high for the TDA1543's.- prog

You just need to lower the output in Foobar/Winamp, set the playback volume at -6dB and the distortion will stop.- prog

The DAC chips' voltage on my Dec. 2008 Valab was 7.8V, I'm getting the 2009 this week (hopefully), but I think the chips' voltage remained unchanged. The 2009 edition seems to have more free space around the tantalum output caps, I will try to fit some 10uF Mundorf MCap or Audyn QS there.- prog

rbej, I will try this, but it won't solve the overheating problem, so I will have to change the supply voltage and the I/V and Vref resistors.- prog

Hi, I was wondering how the Valab DAC would perform compared to a high quality sound card (like ESI Juli@, M-Audio 192 or Emu 0404/1212) ? Can I use KS or asio4all with foobar and the Valab Dac via USB?- prog
