Audio Technica updates their open headphones "AD" Series: AD2000x, AD1000x, AD900x, AD700x and AD500x

I thought the AD700 pads were also circular. I swapped my AD2000 pads with my old AD700 pads and they're pretty much the same.   Anyway, you can e-mail AT about particular pads and they can send some to you for a small price. Or if you still have your AD700, you can just swap the pads yourself.

Audio-Technica ATH-AD2000 Discussion (and Appreciation) Thread!

I stuff rolled tissue paper into the front and back halves of the ear pads to push the drivers away from my ears. The amount you'll need to use will probably be up to you. I admit to not really being able to tell much of a sonic difference and being too lazy to take the pads in and out to...

Oh my god, where can I get a case like that? I'd love something like that for my pair.

Audio Technica updates their open headphones "AD" Series: AD2000x, AD1000x, AD900x, AD700x and AD500x

My AD2000 came with Denon D2000 pads, which were nice in the fact that they provided decent space and angle the driver, but ultimately, I didn't like how stiff they felt. Switched to the AD900x pads and stuffed the inside with about an inch thick roll of tissue and feel very happy about the fit...

I have the AD2000 and swapped the stock pads for the AD900x'. Much comfier; softer, a little thicker. I still stuff the back of the pad with some tissue to angle it, but idk how much of an issue the ad2000x has with drivers touching your ear.

I really wish I could hear these just to see how they compare to vanilla AD2000s

I did the pad stuffing mod because the angle of the drivers still lead them to touching my ears :/ I just rolled 2x 2 plys of toilet paper and stuffed them under the pads behind where my ears would be. Infinitely more comfortable than the stock pads or Denon D5000 pads, IME.

Since we're on the comfort of the AD900x, I have to say that my AD2K was improved massively by putting the 900x pads on them! Not sure if the 1kx and 2kx have the same pads? Definitely a step up from the stock 2k pads, though.

If I didn't love my AD2k so much or had another super high end pair like a HE560 or something, I'd totally loan mine out to you. The AD2k for sure has more bass quantity, focus, and texture than the AD700, but the soundstage is also a lot different; more intimate.

Folex, are you going to be able to tell us how your DIY AD2k compares to a normal AD2k? Local HF-er, upcoming/past meet, etc? I'm so curious about this despite having my own AD2k haha

I wouldnt pay anyone to professonally apply a roll of toilet paper to the inside of my earpads :p Also, the AD2k is a lot more snug than the AD700. Its still the wing system, though.

The build quality of the AD700 is horrendous compared to the AD2k, though... I wouldn't even want an AD900x modded with AD2k drivers. I could be massively biased, though, but I do own all three and feel the build of each is different enough, though I'm sure the grills and headband wire can be...

What happened to your ear pads? I've been using mine daily since I bought the AD900x more than a year ago and have been using them on my AD2000 for the past half year and haven't noticed anything.

I have the AD900x and AD2000 and they both work great with the FiiO E12. Of course, I typically use my aune T1 -> iFi iCAN with them, instead, but suffice to say that the E12 is a decently priced option that works well. The LD would be a good option, as well.

    The WS99/WS77 PG 57..

IIRC, people have been having issues with the microphone cable since the beginning. I don't like it either, but I've misplaced the other cable and need to buy some sort of replacement... Still a great can, though.
