    HIFIMAN Susvara Unveiled

Pggb preserves the transients in the file including what tools were used for the original band limiting during recording so well mastered music will be very good but compressed pop or rock music benefits in my experience from a filter that corrects them. There is disagreement whether that...

    HIFIMAN Susvara Unveiled

This is just Susvara vs Utopia and the primary reason people own both. Only thing that I've found that gets Sus closer to Utopia is upsampling with a very short filter (poly-sinc-mqa or minringFIR) using HQPlayer but I'm not sure how well that plays with your Weiss dac.

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

I love my HPA4 and consider it to be on par with the HM1 just different. It is slightly drier and leaner, with a compact stage but it has better separation than the HM1, absolutely no sonic image ever bleeds into another. Treble is cleaner, but while it hits hard the HM1 just has that extra...

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

It is easy to replicate them digitally. However having these adjustments the twist of a button away makes them 1000% nicer to use and while I'm not an anti-eq analog purist there's something nice about it being an analog circuit

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

On a lot of headphones, especially the Stealth I actually use the soundstage knob turned to the left one or two notches. To my ears some elements all the way to the left or right kind of sound behind me and hard to focus on. Condensing the stage moves everything to a proper distance from the...

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

I think saving about 28% on features that many barely use (mixing, preamp) and the analog EQ is a fair deal. Personally I coughed up the full HM1 price with no regrets as the analog EQ really makes headphones like the HD800 etc shine.

Benchmark HPA4 Headphone / Line Amplifier Impressions

Love this! I had the exact same feeling first time I plugged in my headphones into the HPA4. Hope it brings you much enjoyment :L3000:

Benchmark HPA4 Headphone / Line Amplifier Impressions

I'm missing your dac voltage in this calculation? The output db is the gain level, so if you have a 2V input at 15db gain you get ~11,3V output voltage, which at 16 ohms would translate to 11,3/16 ~ 0,7A which would already be about 7,5W so the amp would clip.

Benchmark HPA4 Headphone / Line Amplifier Impressions

If these specs are correct the DZ is 10 db/Mw more sensitive than Susvara, and also has 20% less impedance so you'll be able to push it about 12 times louder than Susvara, which is for my 30 year old ears not underpowered or clipping the HPA4. I don't know your hearing sensitivity or your...

Benchmark HPA4 Headphone / Line Amplifier Impressions

ah yes, with Susvara it has about 1.5W which you can reach with a bass shelf and/or very high volume (at 1.5W it produces 115db). I listen fairly low volume, I once tried to see if I could get it to clip but for me the sound got above the pain threshold before clipping occured. If you are a bit...

Benchmark HPA4 Headphone / Line Amplifier Impressions

My Susvara sounds fabulous on my HPA4, compared to the HM1 it has a bit more separation, is a bit lighter and the stage is a bit smaller but it still hits like a truck. HM1 hits harder but the HPA4 was to my ears easily superior to the Ferrum Oor which is supposed to be a powerhouse. Still I...

I've seen a Xi Audio Formula S on the inside (https://www.head-fi.org/threads/eleven-audio-xiaudio-formula-s-headphone-amplifier.956765/post-16266142) and it's not very impressive, I would personally never buy one. Maybe it sounds fabulous, I haven't heard it but even topping amps look more...

    Focal Utopia 2022 Review, Measurements

oof, I just went through the same thing with my 2016 and thankfully a local Focal repair shop still had a spare driver and they replaced it for 650 euros in a week. After all you've been through I hope you get a brand new replacement unit, I feel like with a product in this price class you...

Puritan Audio Laboratories PSM136, PSM156, PSM1512 Power Conditioners

I'm running an ordinary extension chord to my bathroom, about 8 meters, which has grounded sockets. Probably not the best SQ wise but it's better than taking out the PSM156. Grounding the sockets near my listening station would be better and much safer but the landlord disagreed with how...

Puritan Audio Laboratories PSM136, PSM156, PSM1512 Power Conditioners

I have mine vertically (Those Pangea cables are ridiculously stiff and unwieldy) without the stand, works completely fine in my opinion. Only gripe i have with the PSM156 is it absolutely requires a grounded socket which old houses in my country often don't have. But I do understand why they...
