Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Funny had the opposite experience as i stated. I think the latest version of the 600 series pads are definitely brighter than the older "softer" version that was used a few years back.- Plieb

Yeah my 6xx with new pads and same cable as 650 does sound a bit darker a bit less seperation with bass a little less detailed. However possibly being caused by unit variances. Actually maybe an unfair comparison because the pads on the 6xx are new but an older version vs the 650.- Plieb

Neumann NDH 30
Yes very easy to listen to. However on some amps that may be too much of a good thing being a bit too timid. Not suprising though im getting great results from the very linear topping a90d. More detail and bite. Ndh 30 has plenty of natural warmth to be a good pairing with clean powerful linear...- Plieb

Yes i returned my Asgard 3 for exactly those reasons. Absolutely the worst sonic experience by far of all my amps. The volume dial also scraped against the unit which was annoying.- Plieb

One of the greatest assets of the hd600 is its superior sound with regard to piano. Totally the most natural and realistic of all my headphones. Not overly bass heavy. Not veiled with realistic tonality. Not many mention how natural piano tone is with the 600.- Plieb

Yes "presence and liveliness" thats the way it sounds with my Rebel. Uncanny is perfect word. If i learned one thing about high quality audio its how important synergy is. You don't necessarily have to have the most expensive equipment to achieve the best sound.- Plieb

Totally agree with you on most of my amps. Especially the linear stuff like my A90D. However with my class A Rebel amp they take on an amazing transformation. The sound stage opens up tremendously. They even beat my Focal Elex which is known for its ultra dynamic and exciting sound signiture...- Plieb

I totally disagree. Im completely wowed by them!Their outstanding seperation, intimacy, detail on strings, their lack of bleeding onto other frequencies, superior projection.Yes on bad recordings they can suck but on the good stuff they can give me goosebumps.- Plieb

My hd600 sounds meh on all my amps with the exception of my Rebel amp which it excels. The 650,660s1 and s2 sound very good on all my amps. I think that is an important consideration when buying the 600. So if your looking for a headphone that is amp compatible with various types look...- Plieb

Yeah turning the amp up on the 600 in many instances adds that extra needed fullness that makes them sound better than others at loud levels.- Plieb

Still loving the 600 with my Rebel Amp. Just sampled the first cut from the new Mumford and Sons hi res recording. Just outstanding natural detailed sound to the vocals. The opening guitar is also amazingly defined. I think i can finally say with confidence that my Rebel Amp 600 combo would be...- Plieb

Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread
Yes i agree that synergy is important. However when you have a number of amp flavors such as full class A, class A/B, and linear types and they all sounded good on an Ess Sabre 9038 chip then you would think that the Asgard would at least sound half decent. I have heard others complain about...- Plieb

I have to say that my experience with the Asgard was so bad that it may have been a faulty unit. However, i was not about to take a chance on a replacement.- Plieb

Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread
Glad to see that the Asgard has been discontinued. The only amp i ever returned because of it's coarse harsh sound. All my other midfi amps sound as expected based on performance reviews. Asgard was the opposite of a silky smooth amp such as the singxer sa1. Also no contest with the rich...- Plieb
