Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
My sister popped on my HD595's and after listening for a minute or so said "these are good headphones aren't they?" I was asking her to listen to a funny song, rather than review the hardware.- Pioneer31

Any HD800 owners go back to AKG K701/2?
Quote: I do not accept the accusation of my AKG's bass description as being "ridiculous". On my setup there is a HUGE diference in bass output between the AKG 601's and HD595's, so unless you're suggesting that the 595's are the muddiest, most bassy heavy and coloured low fi product...- Pioneer31

Any HD800 owners go back to AKG K701/2?
Do you put seasoning or salt in your food? I bet you do..... Lack of warmth isn't an accurate description of them (whatever warmth is). Serious lack of bass is. I've heard lots of live bands and the bass is very prominent. You can feel it. With AKG you can scarely...- Pioneer31

k601: a disappointment
It's funny but I read in another thread an interesting comment. Something along the lines of "musicians never wear Sennheisers on their head (it's always Beyer or AKG) so this proves that Senns aren't accurate" Sennheiser also don't make any prestige closed headphones. Did you ever...- Pioneer31

k601: a disappointment
Quote: First of all, apologies for resurrecting an old thread! You experience the 601's exactly as I do. I was beginning to think I was going mad as plenty of people don't mention things which (to me) are very obvious. A light sound, slightly harsh in the lower treble and a rather...- Pioneer31

SRH840 impression
Update: I think I will send the Shures back. I've given them 50hrs burn in (and I know you'll say that's not enough) but I'm now noticing something about them when A/Bing with my 595's. The bass. It's not that there isn't any, its just rather lame. I can sort of hear it but there's...- Pioneer31

Headphones you regretted buying the most
Quote: I can't agree with that. I bought the 601's on the promise tha they were 'mid centric', so I assumed that they would excel in this area. They don't. The mids are more noticeable than the rest of the audio spectrum but they still sound plastic and unreal. 595's mids...- Pioneer31

Headphones you regretted buying the most
Quote: I think we share similar views of the HD595. It's not the most exciting headphone in the world but I haven't found another headphone that can totally slaughter it. Yes, another phone can have sharper highs or firmer bass but they then lose out in another area. IMO the HD595...- Pioneer31

AKG 601 - Is it just me?
A few people echoing my sentiments in the "headphone I regret buying" thread. To be fair, the 601's sound "better" with mp3 through my pc soundcard. The volume is low but the glary, edgy, plastick sound seems to be diminished, Still zero bass though- Pioneer31

Headphones you regretted buying the most
Ultrasone HFI 780. No headphone in the world has more recessed mids than this one - The one thing that hits you in the face and it's seldom mentioned. Sting, is that you in the distance I can see through my telescope? Bass is OTT and highs are sharp. Boom tizz at an audiophile price ...- Pioneer31

AKG 601 - Is it just me?
Quote: Well I was asking to see if anyone shared my views but it wasn't long before I was told that "its your equipment mate", as if they were the authority on sound reproduction. I don't want people to say I'm right. I'm putting out feelers to see if anyone hears what I hear.- Pioneer31

AKG 601 - Is it just me?
Quote: I've not quite leaped to the conclusions of another poster who thinks that many other brands are applying special FX and bloating or warming the bass. That really is a HUGE generalisation I've not heard the k701 but every review I've read suggests that it is more...- Pioneer31

AKG 601 - Is it just me?
Quote: Quote: No, that is not the case. I appreciate headphones as well as speakers. I don't think I am in anyway approaching spending the amount of time and money on headphones as many on this forum, you only need to look at the "headphones I've owned" threads...- Pioneer31

AKG 601 - Is it just me?
Quote: As I said earlier, you seem very sure that AKG is "the way it is" and others are fudging the sound. I don't see my system as applying special FX or bloating the bass at all. Rotel Amps are known for having fast controlled bass. Maybe AKG laminate their sound in plastic...- Pioneer31

The ATH-AD700 Discussion Thread
Can anyone compare the ATH AD700/AD900 to the AKG 601's? On paper they sound similar (large soundstage, not much bass mid detail)- Pioneer31
