Comment by 'PierreHPfan' on listing 'JPS Labs Abyss TC'
To update the advert, it does not come with the supplied basis JPS Labs cable. It comes with an Audeze adapter. I found the base JPS cable was very poor sound. The Abyss really needs an after market cable in my opinion. To help fund an after market cable, I can take 100 euros off the price...- PierreHPfan

I am selling my Abyss TC. It is a super condition, with only 100 hours of use. Sadly I got into 2 channel soon after I bought it, so it got little use. It sounds superb, and in my opinion is the top end headphone to beat. The leather, paint, panels, ear cups, are all as new. Only thing I had to...- PierreHPfan

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Hi Guys I have enjoyed my DAVE for some time, bought new about 4 years ago from a UK dealer. Today, after it was stored for a few months, I hooked it up to my Mac mini M1 and I can't get it to see incoming data via USB. I have tried an older Powerbook laptop as well, and 3 USB cables. It just...- PierreHPfan

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
I say try it, once you get to a good preamp quality level, things really can take off. Don't take my word for it, try. Please report back, I am curious! There are quite a few DAC owners on this forum who have tried, both direct and via a preamp.- PierreHPfan

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
IMO this is not surprising. There are not many DACs out there the can do power amp direct convincingly to my ears. I will leave the technical reasons for that to the experts, but it is not about colouring the sound, adding tube warmth, or solid state speed. It seems to be other things going on...- PierreHPfan

Woo Audio WA33
Great advice, thank you! It was a nice idea I had, but 2 channel is too important to compromise it- PierreHPfan

Woo Audio WA33
Has anyone got any comparisons using the WA33 as a preamp to a decent 2 channel system? I would love to find a way to get a WA33 but also need a good tube preamp to drive my Passlab monos. Any insight would be great! An obvious downside using the WA33 could be no remote, but I can use the DAVE...- PierreHPfan

Audeze LCD-4
Agree. On the LCD4 in 'system tuning' be it cables, amp or Dac, I look for transparency. This IMO on the LCD4 plays with it's strengths and weaknesses. This applies to all hifi gear I guess. The mixing and ultimate ingredients, that is what makes this hobby so fascinating, and sometimes...- PierreHPfan

Audeze LCD-4
Usually IMO some silver content can increase low level treble details and air. If thick enough, bass don't suffer. Copper is good for taming the highs, add some warmth. On the cables I have tried. YMMV.- PierreHPfan

Audeze LCD-4
Yes you need a high end tube amp IMO to get the full potential of the Abyss, and being a bit harder to drive is also a factor. Abyss off the Bartok was very flat / lifeless, which to me shows a lack of current / drive in the Bartok amp. No better off the DAVE either. LCD4 is great out the DAVE...- PierreHPfan

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Nice, I would love to upgrade my DAVE. If I see more doing it here, think I will get the confidence to go ahead. Parts cost is nothing, it is the risk of blowing up the DAVE 8.5K gone that is holding me back. Having said that, I have built a few tube DAC kits and amps, and modded my speaker...- PierreHPfan

Audeze LCD-4
Interesting. A tube amp would need to be very transparent to push the LCD4 to it's potential IMO. It is a laid back HP after all. The Abyss I prefer SS amps.- PierreHPfan

Audeze LCD-4
Yo You could look to a good speaker amp, buy it used. This opens up a HUGE choice, and no problem with power. I recommend the Passlabs integrated 25, or the Moon Audio 600i Integrated. Both sounds superb, and can also power any other HP such as the Abyss or Susvara. You can find a 600i used for...- PierreHPfan

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
Congrats. Yes the DAVE is a break from the 'normal' delta sigma and multibit DACs. It has a unique way of digging up a lot of fine details and presenting them in a big soundstage, and with zero fatigue / harsh edges. I find DAVE has an edge on headphone systems re other DACs, less so on 2...- PierreHPfan
