Does anyone have any experience using a single 512gb card in the X5-iii? I can't use two 256s due to the way my externally created playlists were created and I'm not about to redo 80+ playlists. Thanks.

Just a wild guess, but I suspect you screwed up the firmware update. There is -nothing- that looks like a dos screen on the X1-II. I suggest redoing the firmware update paying close attention to the instructions for doing so.

I imported 80+ M3U playlists and have never had a problem with all of them showing up on my X1-II. Right out of the box. I startedt with FM 1.4.1 and am now on 1.7.2. I can't imagine what the problem you're experiencing might be. And I see you've already tried M3U8 with no success.
