I think maybe the radio station's prossessing of the sound and the rolled off treble of the signal might make FM more pleasing than cheaper digital. I too find radio more enjoyable a lot of times.

Has anyone heard the 501s with a Meta?

Will the Meta drive the AKGs well -- does anyone have experience with this combination? I wonder what options will bring out the best in these tough to drive phones.

the Rotel 1070 is supposed to be great too. Around the same price as the Arcam 72. Both What Hi Fi and Hi Fi Choice liked it better than the Arcam, so it must be pretty good. I have yet to audition either.

I used 580s through a Bryston B-60 and didn't care for the sound. Very bright and close to my ears.

I'm reluctant to call the Senns bright since I only listened to them through one system, one known to be insistent in the top frequencies. They obviously are not by the measurements, so I have to blame my impression on sizzly pop recordings and a particularly unlucky combo of components.
