Does anyone know what these are? (electrostatic content)
Thanks. So I hooked it all up and turned it all on. There was basically no volume at all until I was at ~70% on my amp, and when I did hear soemthing, it sounded distorted. With the amp at 100% volume, the headphones were really quiet still and quite distorted. So...energizer problem or...- PatrickT

I saw the same thing, but it didn't lead anywhere. Thanks! You got them. Haven't had a chance to plug them in and try them yet...but I will today. The person I got them from said that they would distort when the volume was turned up...he felt that it was a problem with the...- PatrickT

The Entry Level Stax Thread
Interesting...and I will! I was playing around with EQ yesterday after I got them (they are definitely lacking in the bass department). Sounds good with just a little bit of the lower frequencies boosted. I'm running them off my DIY speaker amp that is very low wattage...can anyone...- PatrickT

Does anyone know what these are? (electrostatic content)
I just purchased a set of Stax SR5 headphones with the SRD-7 adapter on craigslist. The seller threw in an additional headphone, which he believes to be a Denon electrostatic...there are no markings on it anyway (except for "Japan" written on it) and the energizer it came with only says ME-20D...- PatrickT

Modi + iPhone 5
Apologies for the potentially dumb question, but I'm a bit confused. iPhone 5 --> Lightning to USB adapter --> Schiit Modi --> Schiit Valhalla Does the Modi act as the DAC in this setup? Or is there a DAC in the Lightning to USB adapter? I've been hearing potentially conflicting...- PatrickT

My setup: Computer/iPod Source (Lossless), Schiit Modi, Schiit Valhalla, Sennheiser HD580. I love this combo, but I'm in need of some closed-back headphones to prevent sound from leaking out. Some coworkers I work near are getting a little annoyed :) So, recommendation for a closed back...- PatrickT

Portable (or small) CD player with Digital Out?
Thanks. The thing is, he ONLY listens to this music at work and won't be taking it places. He already has an 80gb (I think) iPod classic...so getting an mp3 player isn't the issue. He just prefers cds in general. Also, it would take a long time to rip as many cds as he has...- PatrickT

Portable (or small) CD player with Digital Out?
Thanks. This is actually for my Dad who has tons and tons of classical cds that he wants to listen to and it would be a pain to rip them to MP3. It seems like the easiest solution would be to get a cd player (if we can find one). Would a newer (small) DVD player work?- PatrickT
