Audio Technica the master of WOOD
My ATH-W5000s are the top of my current collection. I don't listen to them nearly as often as I should.- ohsigmachi

DAP for Tidal Offline
Has Apple enabled MQA decoding? That is probably the only real-world drawback to using a high end phone with a decent internal DAC/amp.- ohsigmachi

DAP for Tidal Offline
I use my LG V30+ as my DAP and it does Tidal offline(including MQA support) flawlessly. It came with 128gb of internal storage and I put another 256GB in it and I have about 140 MQA and hi-res albums on it currently as well as about 3 dozen playlists. The quad-fi DAC/Amp package is about as...- ohsigmachi

Recommendations for Closed Back Headphones?
I recently bought a used pair of ATH-W5000 they are phenomenal especially with a solid state amp. Also the Beyerdynamic DT-1770 Pros are my house favorite, but paired with tube amps only.- ohsigmachi

Looking for a ~$300 IEM for metal and neoclassical/neofolk
I used a 50/50 mix of medium volume music listening (with the bass eq'd up) and the JLAB burn-in loop.- ohsigmachi

Looking for a ~$300 IEM for metal and neoclassical/neofolk
Also, I HATE IEM designs like the Periodic Audio BE (speaking in the ergonomic sense). I used similar designs from Denon for years and once I got a set of IEMs with over ear chord routing I was just in awe. the Vsonic "wings" that route the chord over your ear take a little getting used to but...- ohsigmachi

Looking for a ~$300 IEM for metal and neoclassical/neofolk
I haven't listened to those two particular brands/models, so I can't speak in absolute terms; but I churned my way through all the regular players in the IEM market and stopped when I got the GR07s. I haven't even looked in recent months. I have no regrets. Speaking in pure economics, I don't...- ohsigmachi

Looking for a ~$300 IEM for metal and neoclassical/neofolk
Let me Clarify, "Out of the box" = First 100 hour of listening time you may want an amp if you want to listen during burn-in (break-in, driver seating, whatever you choose to call it). After the 100 hour period no amp is needed. I listened to 2 hours of Mastodon today, straight from my LG V30...- ohsigmachi

Looking for a ~$300 IEM for metal and neoclassical/neofolk
Yes, I amp'd it for the first 100 hours or so, it was pretty much the only way to get decent sound out of the box. While these are listed as 32 ohms I kinda doubt it. The TFZ King Pro is also listed at 32 ohms and plugging each in one after the other reveals a HUGE volume gap. I can listen to...- ohsigmachi

Looking for a ~$300 IEM for metal and neoclassical/neofolk
That has not been my impression, the carbon graphene drivers do need a break in period (this is the only iem or headphone I actually recommend this for). I used a Fiio Mont Blanc amp on mine for the first 100 hours or so, now they are crystal clear. Source my also play a factor; my source is in...- ohsigmachi

Beyerdynamic DT990 Premium or Hifiman HE4XX Planar Magnetic?
I've own pretty much the entire Beyerdynamic DT lineup and also the HE 4XX and the Senn 6XX, the Hifiman is the most bass lite of the bunch. No rumble, no muscle at all. The Beyer is muscular down low, but also has some rather piercing notes up top. So if you can deal with the hot treble in...- ohsigmachi

Replacing my Current Lineup with just a WH-1000XM2/3? Crazy?
I have A/B'd my XM2's with my friends QC35s and we both chose the Sonys. They were just better in every way. Better sound, fit, more comfort, lighter feeling on your head. I pair my XM2s with my LG V30 so LDAC decoding with MQA support through Tidal means absolute highest resolution digital is...- ohsigmachi
