Approaching Classical
That's Russian romantic era stuff. I find that wikipedia offers lots of interesting information about classical music. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scheherazade_%28Rimsky-Korsakov%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tchaikovsky_and_the_Belyayev_circle Personally, Tchaikovsky is one...- Nowhere Man

AKG K701 vs AKG K702
Quote: I know this is not the best place to talk about this, but I feel I have to say something, only this one time. After this post I will shut up about this, I promise. I live in Finland, our VAT (Value Added Tax) is 23%, so it is almost as high as yours. I am now 28 years old, and...- Nowhere Man

Burning in the AKG K701
I find this is a very interesting psychological question. I am sure that we can perceive sound signature changes in critical listening with new headphones, but are these changes real, or is it just that our brains are adapting to the sound of the new headphones. Moreover, if sound quality...- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
Quote: So you are saying if I modded my HD650 by changing the cable, headband, adding wooden cups (to look very much like the Sony R10) and plugged it to a 50kg system, I would get significant sound quality changes? I believe you are right, no doubt. Just kidding. Seriously, I...- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
Oh ok, I imagined AGD referred to something much more humorous fun :) After your Denon recommendations I have read quite a bit about them. Now I am considering selling my HD650s and getting the D2000. Though I would hate to lose the yummy, thick & creamy, well defined, non-fatiguing...- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
Quote: I have listened to the Denon D5000 shortly and I did like what I was hearing. Closed cans have a better bass performance. I have never heard the D2000 though what I have read, those could be a good choice for rock. No doubt. The biggest turn off with Denons (and most...- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
Quote: As I said in my first post, I don't believe many head-fiers will agree with my opinions on burn-in, amps, dacs and cables. If it isn't already crystal clear, I'm 'headphone first' kind of guy. Yes, we are rare breed on this forum :) Although I appreciate high quality sound, I...- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
Quote: I agree that the K701 sounds a bit bright with the DAC1. I like it more with my Nuforce HDP.- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
Quote: I was just speculating with the HD800/DAC1 combo. As I said, I have no personal experience with the HD800 :) But still, I find it strange why would Sennheiser do something like that, if DAC1 was too low quality amp for HD800. It makes no sense to me. Originally I bought the...- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
Acix, I sincerely hope you are correct :) But I do have my doubts. As I said in my first post, I had a used pair of K701s couple of days before my current new pair. They sound the same to me. But if I hear any changes with the sound quality over time, I will of course post about it...- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
Quote: That's a very good point. I agree, they are a lot better with prog and soft rock. They fall a little short with bands like The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Television, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Janis Joplin, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Oasis, T. Rex, Porcupine tree...- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
I hear what you are saying, DeltaOne. After some quality closed cans bass performance, like your 280s or my HD25s, K701 will sound lacking on the low end. The HD650 has a lot more bass, though it not so controlled. At this price range, quality bass is hard to find from open cans, in my opinion...- Nowhere Man

My impressions with Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K701
Well, I did not say the HD650 is bad for rock. I think it is ok. Still, as I said, the biggest drawback for me is that need to crank up the volume when listening to rock. The HD650 is a bit dark and it has quite uncontrolled bass performance. Both these qualities are not so good for rock...- Nowhere Man
