    A TREAD sized regulator - the r1

Looks like a really great, compact build. Thanks for sharing your builds, guys. I'm curious to see what LNMP says. I've started up the LNMP project myself. Any word on production for these boards? I have some old TREAD boards but I'd like to try this for a turntable project.

Great! Thanks for drafting this out.

    Low battery indicator circuits

Thanks for posting aos's design with additional notes.  I'd like to ask something. I had bought previously the parts required for Tangent/Hadron's circuit, and he's listing resistor values in excess of 100k.  Since I was going to use that circuit I'm resulting in R1 and R4 values of 470k and...

    Low battery indicator circuits

Thanks for your idea qusp. I checked around and it appears this chip is only available in SMD 12-pin, $5. 14uA current draw is attractive, however. I'm the one who asked aos to repost his circuit...thanks again!  I'm trying to shoehorn a bicolor circuit into the scrathpad of the Pimeta V2 board...

    PPA v2 construction discussion

Hello! I am using a PPAv2, powered with a STEPS in separate cases. The PPA is actually not cased at the moment, but I have a piece of metal mocking up the case. The audio input grounds and volume pot are tied to the case. The power input and headphone output are isolated from it. The real...

    Choke for Tread-based power supply

Tangent, Thank you for your educational and thorough reply! I am glad that the point here is that inductors' impedance goes up with frequency. Once I figure out what the inductance is, I can compare it to common STEPS values to see if I'm in the ballpark. Also I like your eyeball/current...

    Choke for Tread-based power supply

Hey guys, In the absence of STEPS/YJPS boards, I'm trying to piece together some of the filtering/snubbing from the STEPS schematic, some cheap parts, an Amveco transformer, and a Tread board into a workable power supply. I've build one STEPS supply by the book already. Anyway, I got some...

HELP!! There's no way I can solder this PCM chip on my Alien

Hey all, I thought to ride the coat-tails of this thread by asking about the same chip and board. I got about halfway through the first row of pins when I added too much solder and a blob of it got behind the chip's leads. I tried many cycles of fluxing and heating with a clean tip and it...

    Simple DIY power amp?

what about ESP's amps for this fellow? They're also located in Australia and have some Class-D offerings using the ColdAmp module. What's the feeling on Mr. Elliott's offerings? sound.westhost.com is the address. Also, diyaudio.com is a good site to check out Collin

    Building some phones

JazzKitPete, I really like your spirit and ambition with this project. I admire your open mind. Plus, those headphones aren't too shabby-looking for a first attempt! The fit and finish will come with time and knowledge, I think. Keep it up! Collin

    STEPS noise/ ripple AC

Hey I just wanted to conclude this thread by saying that I sucked it in and bought a Fluke 179 meter. Where I was getting 820 mV AC ripple before, unreliably, I'm now showing 10-11 mV rock solid. Also, the switch to the 12-0-12 (rather than 18-0-18 as before) transformer is making life cooler...

HELP!! There's no way I can solder this PCM chip on my Alien

04BluMach, well said! Sometimes it just takes some reading and dumb luck to get the confidence necessary. Lots of people I've met are intimidated by even large-scale soldering, so I think our friend pinkfloyd4ever is over the big hump. I've gotten lots of transistors and ICs hotter than I'd like...
