Good time! Which version of 812 are you talking about? Also, did you compare adx5k directly to hd800S (not hd800)?- nick2020

Well, I believe it may be audible only with very expensive equipment, i.e. when all the components are perfect already , except the cable. In the future i may try (even i dont have adx5k).- nick2020

Hello, Assuming an ideally nice recording (pleasing you in every single aspect, and the one you'd better heart in "live"..) the possible coloration (or "character") to it may be added by (in the order of influence): - speakers/headphones - dac - amp (some will put amp first) -...- nick2020

Yes... I agree. My oppo pm-2 will be only for some needed-to-be-in-focus vocals since now. About adx5k, i do respect this technology and do respect the sound signature of these cans a lot (as well). I believe for percussion-rich music this signature is just perfect (probably for many other...- nick2020

Having (previously ordered) hd800S three days so far i can express the sound signature of these cans (with nbf 28.38) as: EFFORTLESS MUSICALITY. Cannot add anything more. I am not sure the same formula would appear for adx5k, due to their slightly dry sound. (With all due respect to adx5k).- nick2020

Apparently yes, they are both sensitive to the source (before I was thinking that only the HD800S is...). With HDVD800 amp-dac the HD800S sounded fuller that 5k (HDVD800 is created for 800S, no doubts). But with nfb 28.38 it depends on music apparently. Since I have oppo PM-2 "for voices"...- nick2020

Well, stores want they profit.. I hope HD800S will do their job well in my case. My feeling is the apparent exceptional performance of 5k has likely been concluded based on vocal tracks mainly.- nick2020

They didnt ban me from doing this either here in Japan. (the transformer from 100V to 220V for my 28.38 is pretty heavy, though :) ).- nick2020

Well, the best outcome would be to buy them both, burn-in and listen carefully with the music you like during ONE MONTH at least, and then return one simply. (But store where I am wont accept it. The fact I brought my own DAC-AMP to the store is already remarkable.)- nick2020

I used a demo HD800S one in the store (presumably burned-in quite well already), whereas the 5k was not standing freely for auditioning, so it might be less burned-in. I do realize that the differences in burn-in time (if they matter) may provoke additional differences in sound, decreasing the...- nick2020

Yes, I may suggest we are talking about DAC-AMP-HPhones matching this case, rather than about signature (or about matching which changes signature :) ). Physically, a known high-frequency boost in the 5k's response curve likely produces the "dust" , as for me. Frankly, before auditioning 5k I...- nick2020

Yes, at first I have tried them both with sennheiser HDVD800 dac-amp, with which adx5k sounded too bright (piano high notes were sounded piercing and saturated). With 28.38 that problem has gone: no saturated sound, no piercing effects. I presume, because of the better DAC. High-resolution DAC...- nick2020

I have finally auditioned both (adx5k vs hd800S) yesterday in the store with my own DAC-AMP (nfb 28.38). HD800S - IS MORE MUSICAL. Period. 5k - MORE DRY, violins produce NOT NATURAL, dusty and dry sound. For VOCAL they sound very similar. This is also related to "non musical" content...- nick2020

Good time! May i know whether you finally got adx5000 with audiogd 28.38? Could you tell your impressions , especially if you compare with hd 800S (on a 28.38)? Does adx5k sound bright on 28.38?- nick2020
