Focal Stellia Review, Measurements, Interview - Head-Fi TV

I could be mistaken, but my impression always has been that for long cables, balanced picks up much less interference. So even if the amp isn't truly balanced in topology, there are some benefits from using a balanced cable.

You can buy little o rings to increase the distance of the driver relative to your ear. That tends to reduce the sometimes over bearing bass.

There used to be spare pads available. If you don't see them, perhaps it's due to shipping/logistics congestion.

I like the tag because it makes it really easy to see which side is left and which is right.

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

The waterfall of sound fidelity from high to low seems to be live music, loudspeakers, over ear headphones, IEMs, and then wireless. Maybe manufacturers just don't think AptX HD vs AptX adaptive is a big enough difference to push to the average user, particularly for wireless in ears, as I bet...

Focal Stellia Review, Measurements, Interview - Head-Fi TV

The utopia is an older model, and Focal hasn't updated it yet. So, I'm guessing a Stellia update isn't likely near term.

My general view is that the biggest tone difference between the Stellia and u12t is in the bass. I should have said that the Stellias are generally perceived to have more bass than the Utopias. So if I think the Stellias don't don't sound similar to the u12t, I'm guessing the Utopias are even...

I don't think the u12t has a similar tonality to the Stellia. I have a pair of Focal Stellia, a Focal Arche, and a u12t. The u12t has more low bass frequency rumble than the Stellia, but the Focals extract more detail out of the mix and sound more dynamic than the u12t. Overall, the Stellia...

That's interesting. My u12t box (purchased in early 2021) says made in the USA.

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

Functionally, a KN95 is supposed to have the same filtration as a N95. The issue with KN95 masks is that they are made in China and many are fake. I've heard some have tested with terrible performance, like 1% filtration. If you can't get a N95, a close approximation would be a KF94 which...

It's strange to tease an announcement coming the next day, and then the announcement turns out to be another tease. AAPL and MSFT are $2T companies that have changed the world, so it makes sense for them to announce events because it gets picked up in the mainstream tech media and because they...

Focal Stellia Review, Measurements, Interview - Head-Fi TV

Is "clipping" the same thing as woofers bottoming out in loudspeakers? If so, that much excursion so close to your ears can't be good for anyone trying to maintain healthy hearing.

I think it's the reverse. The M20 adds more bass, which masks the treble on certain tracks and can become overpowering. I only use it when I'm in a noisy place, like a train or airplane.

RAZ's TOTL review and rambles thread

It's a bit more complicated. If you ever sat next to a violin, brass section, etc. it's not really a warm silky sound. If can become warmer and more diffuse depending on the concert hall and the distance between the listener and instruments. I'll go out on a limb and guess that aside from...

Focal Stellia Review, Measurements, Interview - Head-Fi TV

I'm not positive but given that settings such as voltage/current clearly relate to amp behavior, I believe the headphone settings are implemented on the amp side. If that's the case, using an Arche as a DAC won't carry over the presets to a different headphone amp.
