Don't try to use AIFF files with an iPhone in a Poly/Mojo set up. They are not recognized by 8Player and Glider does not show metadata properly.- mwhitak

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread
Perhaps we could divide this into recommended SS/hybrid amps and recommended tube amps (both SE and PP). I see KR has, with JPS's input, developed several tubes with driving the Abyss in mind. Perhaps Joe could weigh in with minimum and best case wattage (for tubes) into the nominal stated...- mwhitak

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread
thanks for your input! I am building from scratch and want to make sure I have enough power, so I am considering a parallel (quad) 2A3 set up, but there are engineering compromises I'd rather not make, and the single pair setup will be easier...but......can it give the 1266's enough love ? I see...- mwhitak

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread
Does anyone know if a pair of 2A3's single ended will be enough to drive the 1266's well ? Say the KR 2A3 HP tube developed for the 1266 ? Or do I need 2 pairs in parallel ? Joe ? Thanks !- mwhitak

Trying to use Mojo/Poly with 8Player and my AIFF files in sd card. Seems this brilliant engineering triumph won't recognize a common file format over DNLA despite all the marketing. Complete and total FAIL.- mwhitak

Topaz Low-Capacitance Isolation Transformers - for Affordably Clean Power
Thanks for this write up One and a Half ! Very helpful. Will you be using any overcurrent protection (such as a fuse) on the primary side (besides the breaker on the circuit that supplies power) ? I seem to recall seeing pics of topaz units with fuseholders mounted on the primary side access plate.- mwhitak

Topaz Low-Capacitance Isolation Transformers - for Affordably Clean Power
Thanks Mike ! Man-o-man that's crazy to fly in from TX for a commute. What won't people do for a job ? To me, if you can't live relatively near where you work, there's a fundamental breakdown in the 'social contract'. I do commercial electric, and I always get offers from companies in silicon...- mwhitak

Topaz Low-Capacitance Isolation Transformers - for Affordably Clean Power
Thanks uncola...very interesting ! Does anyone know the way to actually measure the interwinding capacitance ? I think I read in the CA thread that someone measured a topaz and got a different reading than the spec. But no one challenged it or questioned it further. Also interesting is the...- mwhitak

Topaz Low-Capacitance Isolation Transformers - for Affordably Clean Power
[ Great story, thanks for sharing ! Hamilton AFB in Novato is now a residential neighborhood, and the hippie thing could never happen now in SF, housing costs are astronomical and you can barely scrap by there on a 6 figure income. The whole Bay Area is just nuts for housing. You should see...- mwhitak

Topaz Low-Capacitance Isolation Transformers - for Affordably Clean Power
Thanks Mike and @One and a half ! Great thread and info. Learned a lot from you guys and John S. I am looking forward to testing procedures and recommended protection ideas. Topaz 2.5 kva 91002-31 on the way. Listed on ebay as 500 VA but probably an error. I think you mentioned it in an earlier...- mwhitak
