Thanks for all the advice man, much appreciated!  I'll definitely do some EQ work to help solve the problem.  I got in my new converter and that was really the problem though, everything is now clearly audible.  I think the old converter wasn't fully sending the signal, especially to the right...

Sounds like this is likely my problem, hopefully the Grado one will be in soon.

I'm not all to knowledgeable on what makes a great mastered album, but James Murphy's albums always sound better than the rest.  Sound of Silver in particular seems to have some incredible production and mastering.

I just received a uDAC 2, yet it doesn't seem to be working well with my Macbook.  It's plugged into the USB port and is recognized in the System Profiler, but I'm not sure where to go from here.  I can't access the device at all, and I'm not sure how to begin running music through it.  Any help...

Hmm, well, I really appreciate all the opinions guys, though I'm still unsure of what I'm gonna go with.  If I do end up going Grado, is there anything additional I could get to up the sound quality?
