The Audio-gd Compass (Was: Designing an alternative to the Zero DAC/amp)

Looks like I missed out. Still seems to be a good price on a great piece of equipment. I'll put some graduation money towards it. I've already got some HD595s that I plan to pair with this. Any other headphones I should look into for video games?

The Audio-gd Compass (Was: Designing an alternative to the Zero DAC/amp)

I had intended to order a Compass today, but the promotional pricing is no longer in effect. I forgot to take time differences in to account when planning to order. I've sent Audio-GD an email regarding the situation. Hopefully, they'll let me get it at the introductory price, but I...

    Looking for a complete setup

My problem with standalone DACs is that they can only decode stereo PCM (from what I've seen). That's fine for use with a PC assuming you never want to expand beyond 2 channels or would like to play a Dolby stream or similar. I would like to be able to use this setup with speakers as well, so...

    Looking for a complete setup

My primary uses will be computer games and music. I'll need some form of amp and some form of DAC. I may want a soundcard as well, because many games do not allow you to select headphones for your output. The only games that I have noticed that do this are Valve releases. It would be nice to be...

Looking for opinions on speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 9.2)

There's always the option to upgrade. The ZERO DAC/Amp/Pre-amp gets a lot of attention here, and it has pre-outs. This way, I can use both headphones and speakers. As an added bonus, it's not very expensive.

Looking for opinions on speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 9.2)

Thank you very much. I've got an older (think '70s) Pioneer receiver with some cosmetic flaws that my uncle gave me. It's a very solid unit with an incredible amount of inputs, but the last time I tried using it, it sounded terrible. It may be an easy fix, but I never got around to opening it up...

Looking for opinions on speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 9.2)

Because I have no equipment, I'm thinking I should try something else. Something like the HeadRoom Desktop amp with the DAC add-on would be able to feed a speaker amp later on, but it's pretty expensive. Are there any comparable solutions at a lower price point?

Looking for opinions on speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 9.2)

I currently have no hardware. I'm using the integrated optical out on my motherboard. Also, the computer may not be my only source. I haven't settled on a budget, but I'm flexible.

Looking for opinions on speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 9.2)

That's good to hear. I'm not really able to add a sub at the moment, but it sounds like I should be fine. I believe the 9.2s are just 9.1s with a bigger woofer. What hardware would you recommend to complement these speakers?

Looking for opinions on speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 9.2)

These will mostly be for computer use (music and games). Someone is selling them locally for $200 and they appear to be in great condition. Are these a good choice or is there something else in that pricerange I should look at?

Looking for new complete system, a bit overwhelmed

Again, thanks for all the replies. The speakers aren't really meant to outdo the Polks, just for another purpose. Since the computer will be a big source, they really need to be bookshelf speakers. $1500 is probably a bit much for bookshelf speakers, and these probably will never be pushed...

Looking for new complete system, a bit overwhelmed

The room is almost 200 sqft. The amp that I already have is rated at 90 watts per channel when driving all 7 speakers, but that will be moved to a different room. I haven't really decided on a budget, but the speakers are the most important part, so maybe something like $1000-$1500 for all of...

I've looked into their line before, and some of their stuff looks good. Unfortunately, nothing of theirs decodes TrueHD or DTS-HD. Thanks for the input, though.
