Stax ED-1 and ED-5 EQs emulation
Ok I understand, that totally makes sense. I guess bass response is still a tricky part to manage, how low do you go when you measure a HRTF btw ? Here is the "Subjective Filtre" impulse : http://www.petit-fichier.fr/2013/09/29/head/ Not a very spectacular EQ, but adds a bit of warmth and...- MLudovic

Stax ED-1 and ED-5 EQs emulation
First post edited with the correct impulses! Reading your discussion about HRTF is very informative, but to make a personalized set of impulses one doesn't need a perfectly flat speaker as a source ? Sigma EQ curve to come. I'll also make an impulse from the Head "subjective filter"...- MLudovic

Stax ED-1 and ED-5 EQs emulation
Julez, here is a similar paper in english : http://hal.inria.fr/docs/00/60/68/14/PDF/PG08_Reconstructing_head.pdf The whole HAL website is full of scientific publications and thesis, for example searching for "binaural" gives a lot of entries...- MLudovic

Stax ED-1 and ED-5 EQs emulation
Very interesting! When trying to understand the whole HRTF concept I came across this document : http://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/docs/00/55/11/45/PDF/000431.pdf. In short they tried to create personalized HRTFs from photo of ears...- MLudovic

Julez do you still have the impulse files of your headphones measurements? Even if I've found a great tool to extract data from images, getting the source files is much more reliable. By the way, did you made other measurements with your university gear?- MLudovic

Stax ED-1 and ED-5 EQs emulation
Yeah definitely interested in that kind of data, I wish I have my own dummyhead to measure my SR-3 and SR-404. Working by ear gives good results but fine tuning can't be done with blind adjustments. On your curves btw the difficulty of getting a good acoustic seal is visible, with the typical...- MLudovic

Stax ED-1 and ED-5 EQs emulation
Thanks a lot Julez! Here is an EQ curve made for the SR-207, based on this measurement : Source : http://rinchoi.blogspot.fr/2013/08/stax-sr-207-back-to-basic.html Its simple aim is to make the curve above flat, so adding an other DF convolver with an ED-1 curve could be necessary...- MLudovic

Stax ED-1 and ED-5 EQs emulation
I'll see what I can do with the M.R.O. one, the NAVI looks really strange and flawed (lack of air sealing?). BTW here are the 3 Stax boxes in action : Zoom : http://i.imgur.com/7lseYkW.png- MLudovic

Quote: Yeah why not, I can try with the 207, i just need to find a clear frequency measurement of it. Quote: Sure go ahead! If you come across SR-404 users, can you please ask them their feeling towards this one for me...- MLudovic

You're right saying that these boxes were designed with a specific use, since the amount of EQ they add is rather important, but they can sound surprisingly well with certain type of music (acoustic recordings, jazz, electro) by adding air and emphasising a range of high frequencies. I was...- MLudovic

Stax ED-1 and ED-5 EQs emulation
And we have a winner That's exactly the type of data I've been looking for, and the good news is that the impulse can be used directly in the convolver plugin. It suits my SR-404 better than the Monitor curve btw. Finding the schematic is only a matter of time now... Thanks...- MLudovic
