Oh, It burns, IT BURNS!!! (Shure Olives)

It could also be that they exert too much pressure on the thin skin covering the cartilage, staunching blood flow. The "burning" would be the blood flow returning after the earphones are removed, plus probably nerves "waking up" after being put under pressure for a long period of time...

Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Thread

Well, since asking here about what sort of IEMs would be best for me I decided to go for the TF10s. I ended up getting a pair of TF10vi's because they're intended for use on my iPhone. The sound is very good. Warm tone, though I found it rolled off at the higher end. However, after adjusting...

    Newbie question

There are 3 types of headphones: Circumaural (over-ear), supra-aural (on-ear) and in-ear (IEMs/canalphones). Over-ear generally refers to the first type, and are different from IEMs. Circumaural: Generally very large and designed to fit completely over the ear. The speakers themselves are...

    Best IEM for these criteria?

Primarily I listen to trance, though I've got a good bit of synthpop, 80s, and some rock mixed in there as well. As far as fit is concerned, the foam tips are all I'm really concerned about, and foam being foam, they do provide some pretty good isolation. My first pair of higher end phones...

    Best IEM for these criteria?

So it seems like the popular consensus goes to the TF10s so far. I've read reviews that say the cord tends to be a little on the brittle side, which would suck, though replacement cords are available. I'm okay with cord heft though; I wrap around the top of my ears so the weight of the cord...

    Potential upgrade from Shure se420?

I just asked pretty much the same thing in this thread earlier today -- upgrading from the same phones, in fact, though I requested specific criteria. So far most people are leaning towards the UE Triple.Fi 10s, which suits me fine.

    Best IEM for these criteria?

Alright, since my bitter disappointment with the Shure SE420, I'm now on the prowl for a good set of IEMs. But without being able to hear them before buying them before buying, and seeing as I'm in the market for something higher end, I'd rather not go blowing another two or three bills on...

Why do my Shure SE420s sound like crap?

Some background: Once upon a time I owned a pair of Shure E3c IEMs and loved them. They were great; excellent sound, great isolation, perfect fit -- so long as I used the foam tips. See, my ears are a bit odd in that the concha -- the indentation that leads to the ear canal -- is a little bit...
