Check it out!: Sansa Clip+ From a US Prison
Or, simply pay a $25 fee and have the player unlocked "legitimately," without fear of losing one's music investment. SanDisk deinstitutionalization info.: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12839/kw/unlock%20prison%20clip- Mikerman

Sony Walkman NWZ-A17
Ah, got it--now that would be interesting: being able to edit tags on the player itself. I haven't heard of that before--does any player have that?- Mikerman

Sony Walkman NWZ-A17
Interesting--I've found the sound just fine, and no issue in editing tags using MP3Tag (that really doesn't have anything to do with the player, as far as I've seen or am aware).- Mikerman

And do all the files on the player stay in alpha order through multiple transfers of files (additions) to the player? As I understand it, apart from using other software, transfers will be in alpha order for each transfer "group," but not between the groups transferred--i.e., abcd bcd acd...- Mikerman

The best I could find right now is instructions on how to use the (more complicated setup-wise) FATsort on Mac OS X--see (and its linked-to info.): http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=clipsport&message.id=933#M933 Perhaps this will assist in making the running of...- Mikerman

Argh, that's so frustrating! For whatever it's worth, Java doesn't nag me to update (on my Windows system), except when there's been a real update after a bunch of months. And the update checker can be turned off (more accurately, not let to run). Perhaps another Mac FAT sorter?- Mikerman

So, I couldn't resist playing with YAFS a bit--a bit of insomnia tonight. Ran Visual YAFS as against a flash drive I have connected to my Windows8.1 system, and YAFS seemed to run well, seeming to re-order my file listings (I was checking under DOS) from order added to the flash...- Mikerman

Yeah, FatSort seemed more, um, complex, but I'm not familiar with the Mac Terminal, called for under FatSort, and so didn't want to presume. Visual YAFS, in contrast, seems pre-baked, assuming your system already has the needed Java install installed (my Windows system did, and...- Mikerman

As I've never used these programs before, I just downloaded the binary file for Visual YAFS to check it out, and it ran (simply double-click/open) on my Windows8.1 system just fine (sorry, I don't have a Mac). I didn't run it as against a drive as I didn't have one handy, but went through the...- Mikerman

Although I don't have personal experience with it, you might check out YAFS ("Yet Another FAT Sorter") and its Visual YAFS for a graphical interface. http://www.luisrios.eti.br/public/en_us/projects/visual_yafs/ I also came across FatSort. ...- Mikerman

And so, the only solution to this is to use a software application such as FAT Sorter (freeware) which will re-do the player's FAT listing, so that the player displays an alpha order; used from your PC on the player after you add files to it. ...- Mikerman

Sony Walkman NWZ-A17
I realize that the above post is from a while back, but I just wanted to mention that A17 refurbs and open-box units sometimes can be found at Amazon.com and eBay (keep on checking). I picked up a refurb at Amazon.com at nice pricing and it seemed to be a brand new or open-box unit, just no...- Mikerman

Responding to this belatedly concerning limitations of later DAPs, including the FiiO (perhaps much has happened since then), yes, the latest SanDisk Sansa players--the Sport and Jam--also are sad with regard to their microprocessor limitations, similar to the FiiO. And while I understand the...- Mikerman

Thanks for the recommendations, again! I'm very tempted by the Bose buds just as to the technology--who knows, one day I could be tempted to try out Bose's 30-day trial! But a high-fidelity pair of cans, such as those recommended by you, would make more sense for me use-wise, absent...- Mikerman
