Thanks for the thoughts, folks! Primary genre will fall under the umbrella of "rock". Portability would be an excellent bonus, which makes the ultrasones seem promising... but I won't rule any cans out on form factor alone.

Do the M10 have any idle noise? Power on but with nothing playing? The D1080MKII do (2.0 powered setup)... and they have that annoying pop on power off, as well. Love the sound when something is playing, but the noise sucks when the room is quiet.
