OK, after using it for a while.. I find HD558 too be lacking in bass, the high and mid is better than my HD515, but the bass is not to my satisfaction..   I think I'm going to sell my HD558, I think I'm not happy with it.. it may not be worth the upgrade from HD515

I end up putting the foam back on (unmod)   seems the modded HD558 is a bit too bright.. sound stage is better but just sound a little too bright

I absolutely dislike the M50, the headphone is uncomfortable, the sound stage is none existant.. returned it and I'm much happier with the HD558

OK I can't resist since it's such a easy mod, removed the foam.. took like 2-3 minutes   sound stage is much better.. wider and more clear noticable loss of bass, but the more natural sound more than compensated for it, sounds like I just got a more expensive headphone :)   my 2c

is HD600 a lot better HD558? and when or if I get HD600, are people going to suggest HD800? :) when is this upgrade thing ever going to end? heheh

I think they are a good company to deal with.. I bought a HD558 from them.. USPS shows delivered by mistake but I didn't get it.. so I filed a claim with Amazon, the same day I got a call from them and they were going to send me another one the next day after they verified some information.  ...

I probably won't do the mod then, I find the HD558 is not that strong on the bass end..

I got my HD558 today, it's definitely a step up from the HD515, the sound is more clear and has more detail.. it takes a bit used to as I'm initially a bit overwhelmed by the additional sound I hear compare to HD 515... seems a bit more 'intense' than the HD515   I got it used from DAHMART...

Yeah the M50's are over-rated I think, the sound is unatural and it headphone is not comfortable..   What's a cheap place to buy HD558? the cheapest i can see is 180 at amazon.   Sennheiser should make the 3.5mm cable standard not through an adapter, that's kinda silly and bulky
