Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

I love my T50RPs! I thouroghly gave them effective damping mods and I am extremely happy with these sweet cans. I appreciate the spectrum analysis. This gives people a great insight as to what expect from a particular mod, or combinations you have painstakingly chronicled. Thanks a million BMF.

    FLAC vs. 320 Mp3

I collect FLAC discographies of my favorite bands, with a good five digit discount of course, and I rip them into 320cbr all the time for listening on my PSP. I usually will remaster them to make the highs a bit brighter and try to make up for the lost "air" in the high end of the spectrum. This...

Can you REALLY hear a difference between open-back headphones and closed-back headphones?

AA there is a definite difference. The open back style does not allow for sound reflections and makes the headphone less resonnant. Ressonance changes the sound and this is why movie theaters use curtains to help absorb radical reflective sounds that you don't want. I just modified some Fostex...

    Fostex T50RP?

I've been waiting to buy a pair of the T50RP and would like to know what people are amping these with. I dont want to spend a bunch of money, and I will probably just build one myself. Any suggestions would be really helpful. I am leaning towards a good tube kit, but I am open to suggestions...

    iTunes EQ

Quote: It is not really the iPod itself, but the craptastic iTunes that is ridiculous. Why pay when you can get FLAC files for free!

    EQ = sound quality?

I'm glad that there are more and more people getting into EQing their music. To me the EQ is probably the most important part of the system, since it is responsible for balancing out the sound spectrum to match what your ears think is a good volume to be at, relative to all the other...

Frequency response vs HD 24bit track sample rate

As far as steps are concened I was trying to explain how the software takes samples of various points of time and the amplitude of the signal. I was just using a staircase analogy (Graph) so that it can be visualized. Sorry if it came out confusing. It is hard to explain without rewriting an...

Frequency response vs HD 24bit track sample rate

Remastering in 24 bit vs. 16 bit is a no brainer. You get better results with the 24 bit file than with the 16 bit. Imagine a sine wave (~), the "bits" are used to represent the steps used to map out the distance going up and down on the waveform itself. The more bits you have the finer the...

Challenge: Talk Me Out of Beats Studio

Besides sounding like crap being thrown against a whirling fan, why would anyone want to spend money on the Beats! I would be embarrased to sport them, and you would have to pay me a substantial amont of money to wear them. And then I would just gut them out and put Koss Portapro drivers in them...

    AKG or Bose?

Might I suggest getting the Fostex T50RP since they are closed somewhat, and spend the rest of the money (200 bucks) on a decent headphone amp. You might want to consider a tube headphone amp if you will be listening at home. Stay away from noise cancelling headphones, and wireless, if you want...

[REVIEW] Fostex T50RP, it's been needing a Review

I'm about ready to buy a pair of these. Thanks for the review. I will definitely enjoy modding these in the future. I'll probably use some Gepco wire on them since I had such a great experience with that wire with my Koss Portapro 25ths.

DIY: 5ft, solid silver, HD600/650 cables, veil smashers!

Nice work bro. Looks like a good shiny solder. Silver solder is tougher for me to use. It doesn't flow as easily, but I use it sometimes. Since it is usually only 2-4% silver, it probably won't matter much since the space between wire and contact is so small. I just replaced my Koss portapro...

What if the audio critic is completely right? What would you own?

Quote: I actually do have a degree in electronics engineering, but what I meant about the vintage carbons is that they have a unique sound that people like. My Marantz 2270 sounds amazing for being built in 1950's. I've built a few radios, robots and amps in my time. I even built a cool...
