Audeze LCD-4
If I had to EQ them I wouldn't have bought the LCD4 to begin with.- marcan

Okay, so you've got new drivers rated at 124 Ohms. I've also had a driver replacement for my 200-Ohm set, and the replacement definitely showed improved sensitivity. I was actually referring to the initial drivers rated at 100 Ohms. I had the chance to try them out, and they were more difficult...- marcan

IIRC the 100ohm was much harder to drive. Sensitivity is more important than impedance on that matter.- marcan

Audeze LCD-4
Using equalization (EQ) to reduce certain unwanted resonances can improve sound clarity, but it's important to note that this might also impact the original transient response. Indeed, by reducing a resonance, the EQ might also attenuate the original transient, which does not necessarily...- marcan

You have post-ringing which is more natural and less noticeable. Post-ringing is an audio artifact that occurs after a transient sound, characterized by a prolonged, oscillating echo effect. Whether it is noticeable depends on the specific equalizer used, the settings of that EQ, and the...- marcan

I am well-versed in minimum, maximum, and linear phase EQ. However, talking about minimum phase for headphones doesn't make sense for me. It's important to note that any EQ will introduce ringing. While analog or minimum/maximum phase EQs primarily add post-ringing, which sounds more natural...- marcan

No, headphones and standard EQ are not always minimum phase systems. However the LCD4 has a nearly perfect flat phase response. And each time you add EQ, you will inevitably add ringing which will smear the transient.- marcan

Indeed, EQ is not a free lunch. What you gain in frequencies, you pay for with a loss of transients.- marcan

The dark side of the LCD4 allows you to crank up the volume and enjoy the music with all its power ;-)- marcan

New Weiss DAC202
I was wondering if anyone tried the xlr balanced line output for driving the headphones rather than the single ended jack? Here is the adapter: https://www.amazon.com/Silver-Plated-Shield-Adapter-Balanced/dp/B09PVQF45Y?th=1- marcan

It's question of personal taste and audio sensitivity. Personally I don't like ringing and 4khz isn't my favorite frequency...- marcan

Is ringing audible? It depends on the type of EQ (peak, shelf, linear phase, etc.), the amount of correction, the range, the audio equipment (DAC, amp, headphones), and the listener. But when I see the EQ settings in this discussion, I'm sure it will add a significant amount of ringing.- marcan
