Try a taking a look at the Rokit 5s or Rokits 6s.... Most people like them, and a set can be bought for $300.   Also, avoid the AV40s

Looking to buy some nice speakers at a budget prices. I'm looking at the BX5 D2s for $210 (or BX5a) or a set of JBL LSR2325Ps used from craigslist for $200 (one of the speakers has a dented dust cap, but from my understanding this has no effect on the sonic performance, and can be fixed)

This is true, but the crossover will do two things for me. It will allow easy an convenient access to the master level, and high and low levels without having to reach behind my units to adjust them, as well as taking some of the low end off my monitors speakers for better mids and highs.  ...

These are still rather expensive. $150 is my limit. This is a budget system that's just intended to sound better than any stock logitech computer system you can buy. I'm not too worried about the low end,  I just don't want it to sound like a trombone under water that rolls off at 45Hz

Well I'm not playing to run both at the same time like that.   This is my plan and i'm just curious if this would be acceptable. Or if I would suffer from any sound loss. Again the card is an Asus Xonar XD
