Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
Jinbo must be listening. I received this late last night: Our current testing equipment can't compare with ASR's equipment. Their equipment is the highest grade at present. As I said in my previous email, I really don't pay much attention to testing performance. But I think the real test...- Lennym

Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
I think I can confirm your suspicion. On my system, with no power conditioner, I have good days and not-as-good days. String sections are the most sensitive to that.- Lennym

Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
A more fleshed out response from Jinbo that I received this morning: I wrote some words. I think it's necessary to tell you my opinion. The development of DA005 has undergone a lot of testing and listening. We focus more on listening tests. In my first few years in the field of audio product...- Lennym

Yes, very recording dependent, and to some extent dependent on peripheral hardware, even USB cable. No doubt you have a more resolving system than do I, but sometimes string sections sound great, other times no so much. I have compared many of the same recordings on vinyl and digital. Often...- Lennym

Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
I'm confident that those with the Musetec and those having the opportunity to audition it understand its quality and will remain interested. I do think public interest in the Musetec will wane though. Resale will be affected. IMO a rebound will happen only if the DAC is reviewed positively by...- Lennym

Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
Though it's late at night in China, Jinbo just responded to my email: Hi Mel. Thank you so much for sharing. I read this post carefully. I can explain the content of the subject test through our design experience. It took me more than three years to design DA005. Roughly estimated, I had done...- Lennym

I've sent a note to Jinbo advising him of the unfavorable review at Audio Science Review. I concluded with: If you have any response or comments that you want published you can send them directly to him directly or to me, your US dealer or any other of your customers that you are in contact with.- Lennym

spw1880, For comparisons to other DACs, and especially the Gustard, you may want to review the thread, Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC, at the Audiogon Digital Forum. Some have sold their Gustard after hearing the Musetec. But, of course, the Musetec is more expensive. The thread has grown very...- Lennym

Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
My system, hard wired, has music files on a NAS, an SOtM sMS-200ultra Neo as a DLNA bridge controlled by a laptop running JRiver connected via a USB-to-ethernet converter. The sMS-200 is on all the time. I was initially using an iFi iPowered TP-Link SG108 switch and it was working fine. Each...- Lennym

Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
Hoshi, How did the Uptone power supplies fail? Supercapacitors, like all capacitors, have a limited lifetime. In the case of supercapacitors it's usually measured in cycles, the ones in the Musetec for 500,000 cycles. It's hard to know what that means for normal DAC use. They are not very...- Lennym

Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
Musetec, I believe sells primarily in Asia, mostly in Hong Kong. It actually has been reviewed on a Chinese site. It has no North American distributer, and what appears to be a new and relatively inactive European distributer. Normally it is these distributors who go to the audio shows and...- Lennym

Four years after the L.K.S DA004: the Musetec DA005 DAC
It was someone in the 004 thread that said that one of the reasons for better performance than others was that the chips were being run warm. In the 004 the chips actually had heat sinks glued on top. In the 005 the chips (like the FETs) are being heat-sinked to the bottom of the chassis. The...- Lennym
