Quote: Yes, I've read a ton of sites discussing "infinite reboots". They all advise restarting in disk mode - which doesn't work for me. That second link is interesting because it has a comment saying the Kingspec drives do not work because "it was no way getting an Kingspec SSD...- Lazlo

Quick update (again) for those who are interested: I said earlier that I had tried connecting a disk enclosure in an attempt to bypass the iPod, and that it didn't work. Turns out that I had connected the disk upside-down. Sounds like a silly mistake to make, but in my defence, what with...- Lazlo

Definitely a 5.5 - I can see the Search entry on the Music page. ... Pretty sure I've fried the SSD now. I actually bought an enclosure in an attempt to bypass the iPod - the idea was to reformat the drive from there and start over. However even with that Windows does not recognise...- Lazlo

Thanks for that. That gives "late 2006", and this site gives the 5.5 release date as September 2006 ... so could be either I suppose.- Lazlo

For me, it's the robustness of solid state over moving parts. For info, I've just spent money on a refurbished 30Gb (i.e. thin) iPod Video, and one of these: http://www.memoryc.com/storageproducts/ssd/128gbkingspec18zif40pinssdsolidstatedsksmicontrollermlc.html It will have...- Lazlo

Quote: (Hi all...) I've been following this thread, as I am about to do the exact same thing. I have a question / clarification for you, if that's ok. There are a couple of Super Talent 120GB SSDs, the ZT2 (FZM28GW18P), but also the cheaper (and slower) Masterdrive...- Lazlo
