Beyer DT880 and Grado 325i: Complimentary?

I have DT880 and SR225 and they certainly makes a good pair. I would not however throw the 225 in a laptop bag (that's what DT770 is for ), they seem a little fragile.

    How to archive my collection?

There has been some reports of file corruption on Windows Home Server so it could be an idea to have a backup (imo the original cd's are only a valid backup if you have plenty of spare time). Microsoft addresses Windows Home Server file corruption, promises fix - Engadget

what's the safest way to store music?

It might also be usefull to use a SMART tool, Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia to check the health of a disk. Iirc SMART was able to predict about 50% of disk failures in the Google disk paper published some time ago.

problem } my external hard drive is jammed. any help?

If you are lucky it is the controller on the external drive that is broken. You can try to open the enclosure and put the disk inside a computer or another disk enclosure. I shall not spell backup.

    DT 770 better with amp?

Don't know if it's the amp or dac, but my DT770 is much better with the Pico than straight from any laptop I have tried (including two T series Thinkpads and ppc miniMac).

Head-fi, you looks good, won't you back that File up (how do you back up your music files?)

Music (+ photos etc) are stored on my server. I have an external disk that I usually keep at work. I take it home for refreshing the backup whenever I feel like it. In addition I have a "backup" partition on my workstation at home. Files are sync'ed daily (I use rsync) from the server daily.

What laptop has a good headphone output?

I found the sound from my Thinkpads (T42 and T60) to be fairly good. As for portable USB dac's I can recommend the Pico, it is small with *very* good sound.

    best linux soundcard?

Best and cheap doesn't normally go together ;-) In general USB cards that doesn't require special drivers in Windows, will work in Linux.

    best linux soundcard?

Not exactly a soundcard, but I'm currently listening to a Stello DA100 dac feed by USB from Open Suse -> audio in Linux is great Generally USB audio is well supported in Linux, you can see Matrix:Main - AlsaProject for information about specific cards.
