Looking for an amp with practicalities first...

Would a cheap Audio switch be detrimental to the sound? Hope they don't sound as bad as they look... Anyone else any ideas?

Looking for an amp with practicalities first...

As far as I can see it has only one input and one output.. Am I asking too much for the money?

Looking for an amp with practicalities first...

Hi I currently use a PC with a pair of MS1s, and will shortly get a digital recorder and (if I can find a pair at a decent price, further to my thread in the other forum) a pair of HD600s. What I'm looking for is a fairly inexpensive amp yet enough to do justice to the HD600s (preferably...

Headphones for amateur recording, classical/jazz, and not MS-1s

Thanks for all the helpful posts! Stealth, that K501 does sound excellent, although I have not been able to find it on ebay nor google. And thanks for advice on the detail of the AD700. Aman, thanks for the critique on the 595. The positioning is one thing that is important recording wise...

Headphones for amateur recording, classical/jazz, and not MS-1s

How about the AD700s? Although perhaps the closed equivalant to stop a click track/backing escaping would be better? I was also thinking, perhaps wireless to keep my hands free of cables, but I'm worried about their quality... Some Sennheiser and AKG wireless here...

Headphones for amateur recording, classical/jazz, and not MS-1s

Hi I'm being very whimsical at the moment, and am about to spend £500-800 on recording equipment. I am dreading this, but hopefully for you fear Head-Fi'ers spending this sort of money is merely the result of an affliction you don't talk about other than on these pages, and you will forgive...

    Test your hearing

Not quite a hearing test - although I wish! Did them a while ago and got close to full marks (played instruments since I was 8) -- but my ears and hearing are in a poor state unfortunately .

    Please give me your advice

As wonderful as the MS-1s are they are a thoroughly bad idea for portable phones. I wore them out once and ended up turning the volume very high to hear the music, and it was still spoilt by the noise of car engines. So bad idea.

    How do you pronounce denon?

I also pronounce it de-non. De as in the start of 'dead', or close to how the French would pronounce it. Edit: I also pronounce Grado as gray-doh. I seem to remember reading somewhere that those from the area around New York tend to pronounce some words closer to how they would be in...

    possible hearing loss?

Although that can be a symptom of hearing loss, where there is perhaps a problem with the connection of bones of the middle ear, this isn't something that happens on a whim, so there might be another explanation.

    Alessandro delivery time to UK?

I think mine took about 1 1/2 weeks which was quite quick. It would have been much slower if it was checked going through customs. Fortunately mine wasn't and didn't have to pay a charge. That's just luck though!

Is my right ear weaker than my left?

You may find that depending on the genre/age of music one channel is weaker than the other. With 60s (and some 70s) rock I find the left is often mixed to have less vocals and weaker rhythm guitars. So it's probably not you losing your hearing. Hearing problems do suck though. My left ear makes...

Alessandro Music Series MS1 FAN CLUB!

Must say I'm really enjoying the acoustic guitar sound on my reversed 414 MS-1s. Think someone pointed out how well Clapton's unplugged album works with them, currently listening to Bert Jansch's River Sessions (live) and it's even better.

    MS-1 414 mod, having a little trouble!

Thanks - great picture too! Took the plunge and cut it, seemed I needed a bit bigger a hole to get them on reversed, but sorted now. On one hand the sound seems less oppressive, although this could just be down to being unused to the feeling of foam pressing in its entirety on the ear. I don't...
